Three Chinese Performances by NCEPU Foreign Students Gained Access to the Primary Competition of 2009 Chinese Contest for Foreign Students in Beijing

From April 18th to 19th, hosted by Beijing City Education Committee, the 2009 Chinese Star Competition for Overseas Students, a great international event for overseas students to show their level of Chinese and the knwoledge of Chinese culture and art, was unveiled in Beijing Language and Culture University.

    Among about 200 performances from about 65 universities, 60 performances from 25 universities gained access to the primary competition. There are 3 performances from the International Education Institute of NCEPU enlisted, namely, modern drama Liu Bei Made Three Calls at the Thatched Cottage composed by students Joseph, Jack and Da Silva,with Huo Yueli as their instructor,chorus Jiangsu folksong Jasmine Flower by Piao Xishu,Jin Bingguan,Piao Zhuxian, Piao Duoqing、Li Dugeng and Zheng Qingxi, with Huo Yueli and Yan Yuan as well as Numerical Culture by Shamir.    

    Bjchinese.bjedu.cn website had a special interview with the instructor professor Huo Yueli and her students, and published a special report on the Romance of Four Kingdoms —— Liu Bei Made Three Calls at Thatched Cottage —— How Oversea Students Illustrate ancient Chinese culture, making NCEPU the only university that gets a special report among all the candidate universities.

    The leaders of International Education School attached great importance to this competition, and carefully organized this competition. During the designing period,headmasters of each class introduced this competition to the overseas students; and during the molding and rehearsal period, they gave careful help and guidance. In this competition, we gained a very impressive result with three performances enlisted among all the seven performances recommended. Liu Bei Made Three Calls at the Thatched Cottage and Jasmine Flower bring about sensation in the competition.

    This activity is a successful display of our foreign Chinese teaching achievement. It expanded our influence among universities with overseas students in Beijing, and at the same time increased our national influence.
