NCEPU Appoints Prof. Neven Duic and Prof. Joao P. S. Catalao as Visiting Professors

On May 4th, 2018, the Visiting Professor Appointment Ceremony was held by the Department of Electrical Engineering at Meeting Room 217, No.1 Teaching Building, Baoding Campus. Professor Neven Duic from University of Zagreb, Croatia, member of Croatian Academy of Engineering, and Professor Joao P. S. Catalao from University of Porto, Portugal were appointed as Visiting Professors of NCEPU. More than 30 people attended the appointment ceremony including Professor Yunpeng Liu, dean of the Department of Electrical Engineering as well as teaching staff and doctoral and master students.

 

The ceremony was hosted by Professor Fei Wang from the Department of Electrical Engineering. Prof. Fei Wang first gave a brief introduction to Prof. Neven Duic and Prof. Joao P. S. Catalao, including their career experience, research interests, academic achievement and cooperative research achievement with NCEPU. Prof. Yunpeng Liu highly evaluated their academic achievement and extended sincere welcome to their joining in NCEPU as Visiting Professors. He hoped that both sides will deepen their cooperation in scientific research and education in the future and believed that with the assistance of both professors, NCEPU will further accelerate its internationalization process in academic research and enhance its international influence on Energy and Power Science and Engineering disciplines, in order to promote the “Double First-class” construction. Later, Prof. Yunpeng Liu awarded the Certificates of Appointment to both professors.

 

 

Afterwards, the two newly-appointed Visiting Professors presented speeches respectively. They said that it is a privilege for them to be appointed as Visiting Professors of NCEPU. They hoped that with this opportunity, both sides will not only strengthen their cooperation in academic research, personnel exchanges, etc., but also, based on the current foundation, promote further cooperation in fields of Integrated Energy, Demand Response, etc. focusing on interdisciplinary integration and the complementarity of research areas.

 

Neven Duic is a full professor at the Department of Energy, Power Engineering and Environment, FSB, University of Zagreb. He is currently the academician of the Croatian academy of engineering. He is the national representative of the EU Horizon 2020 project and the member of FP7 PEOPLE Programme Committee. He is President of the International Centre of Sustainable Development of Energy, Water and Environment Systems, Croatian national coordinator for researcher’s mobility at the Agency for Mobility and EU Programmes. He is Editor-in-Chief of Journal of Sustainable Development of Energy, Water and Environment Systems and member of editorial boards of 8 journals. He has organized several of the series of conferences on Sustainable Development of Energy, Water and Environment Systems. His main research interests include energy policy and planning, energy management and economics, sustainable development policy and resource planning, climate change mitigation, combustion engineering and modelling, and research and innovation policy. He has published more than 200 research papers and won the National Award for significant scientific achievement in 2016 in the field of engineering sciences.

 

Joao P. S. Catalao is an IEEE senior member and a Professor at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP), Porto, Portugal and an Editor of the IEEE Transactions on Smart Grid, an Editor of the IEEE Transactions on Sustainable Energy, an Editor of the IEEE Transactions on Power Systems, and an Associate Editor of the IET Renewable Power Generation. He was the Primary Coordinator of the EU-funded FP7 project SiNGULAR ("Smart and Sustainable Insular Electricity Grids Under Large-Scale Renewable Integration"), a 5.2 million euro project involving 11 industry partners. His research interests include power system operations and planning, hydro and thermal scheduling, wind and price forecasting, distributed renewable generation, demand response and smart grids. He has authored or coauthored more than 625 publications, including 225 journal papers(more than 65 IEEE Transactions/Journal papers), 350 conference proceedings papers, 34 book chapters and 14 technical reports, with an h-index of 38, an i10-index of 145, and over 5950 citations (according to Google Scholar).
