Professor Richard Paul Corkish, President of School of Photovoltaic and Renewable Energy from University of New South Wales (UNSW) Australia, visited North China Electric Power University on October 15th at invitation.

He was received by NCEPU President Liu Jizhen and Vice President Yang Yongping in the morning. In their cordial conversation, President Liu expressed his warm welcome to Prof. Corkish. He also made a brief introduction of NCEPU. President Liu emphasized that NCEPU is a university excelling in energy and power. Being attentative to the changing international energy resources and global environment, NCEPU is ready to take part in international cooperation in this area. In 2007, the first “School of Renewable Energy” in China was established in NCEPU, with the aim of providing professional talents and scientific technology for the development of renewable energy. Professor Corkish’s visit will play an important role in boosting cooperation between the two universities.

Professor Corkish extended his gratitude for the hospitality he had received from NCEPU, and then introduced UNSW. Specializing in science and engineering, UNSW is a member of the famous Group Eight in Australia. UNSW has been committed to the research of renewable energy, in particular photovoltaics, since 1974. Having established its authoritative and core position in the theoretical study of silicate system, UNSW also built the first “School of Photovoltaic and Renewable Energy” in the world, just like what NCEPU did in China. Professor Corkish expected more cooperation and communication on scientific research and education between the two universities.

The meeting was followed by President Liu’s rewarding the appointment to Professor Corkish as the part-time professor and expecting his frequent visit to NCEPU.

After the meeting, Professor Corkish gave an academic lecture titled “Australia-based education and training for photovoltaics industry expansion in the Asia-pacific region” in the international communication center in NCEPU. In this lecture, he gave a detailed introduction about the cultivation situation of graduates and postgraduates as well as the current research achievements of UNSW. Teachers and students from the School of Renewable Energy attended the lecture and the discussion later.

Professor Corkish took a guided tour to the real-time simulation of hybrid AC/DC system laboratory and the high voltage and EMC laboratory after the lecture. He set a high value on the thriving development of the electric power sector in NCEPU.
