President of University of Regina Dr. Vianne Timmons Visited NCEPU

On September 24, Dr. Vianne Timmons, president of University of Regina came from Canada to visit NCEPU. President Liu Jizhen met with the delegation, and the two sides had a meeting at the International Exchange Center in the afternoon. The meeting focused on three topics, namely,  “2+2 undergraduate project” and “1+1 master´s project” cooperation, exchange study for both teachers and students, and scientific cooperation in carbon capture and ipac of the two universities. President Liu Jizhen, Vice-President Li Chengrong, dean of Environment Engineering & Science School Zhao Yi, dean of Students’ Affair Office An Jiangying, dean of Graduate School Zhao Dongmei, Commissioner of International Education School Liu Yongqian and Deputy Commissioner Duan Chunming from NCEPU, and president Dr. Vianne Timmons, vice president of Graduate School Dr. Dongyan blachford, dean of Business Administration Dr. Anne Lavack, director of Center for Energy and Environmental Research Huang Guohe and director of International Cooperation Department Ms. Li Liu from University of Regina attended the meeting. The meeting was presided over by Vice President Li Chengron.

    At the beginning of the meeting, Mr. Li Chengrong expressed warm welcome on behalf of NCEPU. He said that at the eve of the 60th anniversary of PRC, Regina University’s visit is really a pleasing and exciting issue for NCEPU.
    President Liu Jizhen gave a brief introduction of North China Electric Power University and conveyed his warm welcome and sincere greeting in English. He said that NCEPU and the University of Regina has established a good working relationship for many years, and he still remembered very clearly the visit to University of Regina 10 years ago and looked forward to the next visit. President Liu said that NCEPU is a university with a sound power industry background and professionalism. At the same time, through disciplines expanding, the university has been making efforts to develop multidisciplinary education to reach the aim of a research-oriented, international, first-class university. In recent years, this university has made significant progress in school building and discipline development. As a professional university focusing on the energy industry, it pays close attention to international energy resources and environmental changes, emphasizes academic development in this field, and is enthusiastic in strengthening international inter-institutional cooperation. President Liu mentioned that North China Electric Power University established International Education School so as to send a group of excellent exchange students abroad after training with well preparation. Since the establishment of International Education School, many students have been sent to Britain, France, Australia, etc. to pursue further study. He hoped that in the future there would be more exchange students. The visit of the president and deans of each department will play an active and important role in pushing forward the cooperation. Finally, President Liu expressed his welcome again and wished them to enjoy the beauty of Beijing in autumn happily.

     President Timmons thanked for the hospitality of North China Electric Power University. She said that the University of Regina emphasized on international development, and also confirmed increasingly importance of the energy, environmental issues in development in the future. Regina University is a comprehensive university in Canada and enjoys a world leading position in the research on storage and recycling of CO2. She was pleased that North China Electric Power University attached such great importance to environmental-friendly development, looking forward to cooperation in the “2+2” programs and post-graduate training of the two universities. She took this opportunity to congratulate the 60th anniversary of PRC, and once again thanked the hospitality of the teachers and students from NCEPU.
    Then in any active atmosphere, representatives from both sides had a discussion on three topics, namely, the “2+2 undergraduate” and “1+1 master´s degree” project cooperation, visiting scholars and research cooperation in ipac. In the end, they signed a memorandum of understanding between Performance Evaluation Center (ipac-co2) and NCEPU.

    After the meeting, with the accompany of vice president Li Chengrong, Director LiuYongqian and other people, the representatives from the University of Regina visited real-time simulation of AC-DC hybrid systems laboratory and high-voltage and EMC laboratories in this university, and gave high appreciation for the vigorous development of power energy here. During the visit, the representatives continuously asked about the development of NCEPU and appreciated it now and then. In the evening, representatives of both sides had dinner together and drew a successful close for this exchange.
