National Outstanding Teacher Professor Cui Xiang Addressed to Young Teachers of NCEPU

Several days ago, Professor Cui Xiang, a national outstanding teacher and doctor supervisor of the Electrical and Electronic Engineering School, delivered a lively speech to more than 200 young teachers in the Multifunctional Hall of International Exchange Center. The 2-hour speech, entitled “Future of Motherland and Mission of Teachers——How to Be a Qualified Teacher”, was a great success as it combined Prof. Cui’s personal experiences with answers to the how-to question four aspects, namely teacher, teaching, scientific research, and mortality cultivation.

    Prof. Cui thought that being a college teacher was of great flexibility. A teacher could put his personality and interest into full play, which brings him enormous happiness. Teachers would feel affirmed and recognized when students get to know more about the occupation, develop their own talents and wisdom, and create wealth for society. In addition, college teachers were generally more learned than people of other professions. The sense of achievement can never be so fully satisfied if one takes up any other kind of job.

    As for teaching, Prof. Cui pointed out that as a teacher, especially as a young teacher, one must have right teaching philosophy. One should be competent in one or two subjects and bear in mind that there was no end of teaching; on the choices of teaching materials, one should opt books of high reputation; as for the compilation of teaching materials, one should make them distinctive, informatived and stylistic, showing his or her scientific research and academic accumulation.

    When it came to scientific research, Prof. Cui said earnestly that young teachers ought to attach equal importance to teaching and scientific research which should keep up with the needs of our country and society, take on research projects of academic and engineering value, and make active contribution to the construction of an innovating country.

    Besides, young teachers should promote themselves in humanities to develop in an all-round way.

    In the end, in the resounding applause, a young teacher from Electrical and Electronic Engineering School presented a bouquet of flowers to Prof. Cui.

    It is reported that in the “Decisions on the Fifth Award of Renowned Teachers of Institutions of Higher Education”, jointly issued by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Finance, Prof. Cui got the honor. He is also the first teacher in NCEPU who got such an honor.
