On the afternoon of June 10, vice-president Yang Yongping successively met guests from AREVA (a world-leading French company in nuclear energy) and SNPTC (State Nuclear Power Technology Corporation) and discussed the talent cultivation and scientific research in the nuclear field with the two famous nuclear companies.

As one of Fortune 500 enterprises, AREVA is a French public multinational industrial conglomerate that deals in energy, especially nuclear power. It is the only company with a presence in each industrial activity linked to nuclear energy: mining, chemistry, enrichment, combustibles, services, engineering, nuclear propulsion and reactors, treatment, recycling, stabilization and dismantling. AREVA also claims to offer technological solutions for CO2 free energy; and produces earth leakage circuit breaker technologies. Yang Yongping gave a warm welcome to the AREVA delegation headed by Mrs. Helene Derrien, vice-president of HR department. The two sides further elaborated the internationalized cultivation for students majoring in nuclear power. It has been AREVA’s second visit to our university after the first visit in Dec.12th, 2007.

Soon after, vice-president Yang Yongping received SNPTC delegation headed by Fan Jihong, Priority Project Office Director of SNPTC. Yang Yongping highlighted our university’s talent and research advantages in the field of nuclear power. Fan introduced the achievements SNPTC has gained since it was founded one year ago and pointed out the current three tasks of SNPTC, which are absorbing and digesting the advanced technology, developing the advanced technology with Chinese Intellectual Property Right, and speeding up the formation of China’s nuclear power sustainable development. Fan emphatically introduced large advanced pressurized water reactor and high-temperature gas-cooled reactor nuclear power plant, one of the 16 major projects in National Plan for Medium to Long-term Scientific and Technological Development (2005-2020), and expressed his hope that our university can provide some suggestions and directions to the scientific research of large advanced pressurized water reactor and high-temperature gas-cooled reactor nuclear power plant. Meanwhile, he hoped our university could take an active role in the research of bottleneck problems which restricted the development of nuclear power technology. The leaders and experts from Electrical & Electronic Engineering School, Energy & Power Engineering School, Nuclear Science & Engineering School, and Computer Science & Technology School introduced advantages and preliminary thoughts towards the cooperation. The two sides identified the initial cooperative intentions.

During the visit, the guests toured two laboratories under the Ministry of Education: Laboratory of Power System Protection and Dynamic Security Monitoring and Laboratory of State Monitoring and Control of Power Plant Equipment. (Wu suhua)
