The Opening Ceremony of Concert Tour of China of Symphony at Western Kentucky University (WKU)

        On May 15, the opening ceremony of Concert Tour of China of Symphony at Western Kentucky University (WKU) was held grandly in the auditorium of NCEPU. Wu Zhigong, the secretary of the Party Committee of NCEPU; Gary A. Ransdell, the president of WKU and relevant leaders of Hanban attended the opening ceremony and delivered speeches.

        The Concert Tour of China of Symphony at WKU is an important activity of the 2013 Chinese cultural experience summer camp for the Confucius Institute at WKU. It will perform in four spots, separately, Beijing Campus of NCEPU, Beijing Language and Culture University, Hebei University and Baoding campus of NCEPU. During this period, they will also learn and experience Chinese language and culture, and communicate with the Chinese teachers and students.

        The works of this concert is wide selection, including classical music composed by European Classical Music, and classic works with worldwide reputation composed by Chinese composers, as well as new good works made by contemporary composers and adaptation works with rich ethnic customs based on the classic Chinese folk song and films. The superb performance at the opening ceremony from WKU presented a musical feast for the teachers and students of NCEPU.

         At the day of the concert, Wu Zhigong met with Gary A. Ransdell and held annual Confucius Institute Council, and also listened to the work report from Professor Pan Weiping, the President of the Confucius Institute in the United States. The two sides discussed and reached an agreement on the development planning of Confucius Institutes, the management of funds, the construction of Chinese teachers and the development of new projects and other matters.
