NCEPU Undertakes the 6th High-level Industry Characteristic Universities Forum

       On Dec. 12^th, the 6^th High-level Industry Characteristic Universities Forum was undertaken by NCEPU in Beijing. Major leaders from 28 universities directly affiliated to the Ministry of Education and the communication & electric power industries gathered together and discussed how to implement the spirit of the 18^th Party Congress in the industry characteristic universities, how to serve the construction of an innovative China and how to serve and lead the development of the industry with the theme on “Support and Co-development of the Industry and Universities”.

        Ms.Lin Huiqing, the Assistant Minister of Education and the Party member, Mr. Zengli, Vice Chairman of Zhongxing Communication Ltd. and the President of the Academy of Zhongxing Communication, Mr. Wang Zhixuan, the General Secretary of China Electricity Council, Mr. Wang Yanjue, the Head of the Department of Science and Technology, Ministry of Education, major leaders from the 28 industry characteristic universities and representatives from Xinhua News Agency, China Daily, China Education Daily, Science and Technology Daily and other media attended the forum.

      Ms.Lin Huiqing mentioned in her speech that the development of the industry characteristic universities could not be departed from the industry’s support. And the need of the industry provided energy and motivation for the development of the industry characteristic universities and the development of the industry also needed the support of the industry characteristic universities. Universities cultivated talents for the industries and did make irreplaceable contributions to the development of China’s economic and social development.

        Mr. Wu Zhigong, the Secretary of the Party Committee of NCEPU, pointed out that the principal of “Implementing the strategy of achieving development by innovation” proposed by the Party laid a glorious historic duty on the higher education institutions. The industry characteristic universities should not only carry on their traditional advantages but also attach importance to the national development strategy in order to meet the development demand of the strategic emerging industries and make new achievements as the new forces.

        As the representative of the enterprises, the General Secretary of China Electricity Council Mr. Wang Zhixuan, and Vice Chairman of Zhongxing Communication Ltd. and the President of the Academy of Zhongxing Communication Mr. Zengli also expressed their opinions.

        President Liu Jizhen delivered the report entitled “Supporting, Serving, Leading and Surpassing—the Strategic Thought of the Positioning of the High-level industry characteristic Universities”. In the report, he expressed his opinions on the positioning of the high-level industry characteristic universities under the new situation.

        First of all, the grand economic and social development of China demands the higher institutions to follow up with the step of the times. And secondly, “high-level” means that the industry characteristic universities should lead the development of the industry. Finally, to build the world-class top university is also one of the objectives for the industry characteristic universities.

        Prof. Wang Ling, Secretary of the Party Committee of the University of International Business and Economics, made a speech titled “ Cooperation in Building Innovative Universities and Promoting the Open Economy”.  Prof. Ning Bin, President of Beijing Jiaotong University, made a report named “Promoting the Co-innovation on the Basis of the Industry and Cultivating Leading Personnel of the Industry”. Prof. Qian Feng, Vice-President of the East China University of Science and Technology, delivered the speech of “The Inevitability of History and Reality: Supporting and Co-development of the Universities and Industry”.

        Wang Yanjue, the Head of the Department of Science and Technology, Ministry of Education, was invited to give a repot on “Work Progress in ＇2011

Plan＇”. In the report, he pointed out that the “2011 Plan” was carried out and implemented on the basis of promoting cooperation, innovation, combination of education and technology, economy and culture, enhancing the innovation capacity of the universities and supporting the building of an innovative China and a nation strong in human resources.

        In the free talking stage, Prof. Xu Hui, Secretary of the Party Committee of China Pharmaceutical University and Prof. Jiang Qingzhe, Secretary of the Party Committee of China University of Petroleum, expressed their ideas. The representatives discussed about how the industry characteristic universities could meet the new demand of the nation, society and industry under the new situations, how to make contributions to the rejuvenation of China and how to give full play to their leading role in this strategic opportunities.

       Prof. Wang Jie, Secretary of the Party Committee of Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications, made the summarizing speech. He deemed that this forum was a way to implement the spirit of the 18th Party Congress and to put the major theories into actual use in order to help the industry characteristic universities to achieve further development. And this year’s forum was the turning point and new start of the development of the industry characteristic universities.

        The High-level industry characteristic Universities Development Forum was established in 2007 by Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications and some other universities. On this forum, sixty leaders from the Ministry of Education, China Electronic Chamber Of Commerce, Zhongxing Communications Ltd. , industry associations, enterprises and industry characteristic universities gathered together to discuss about “Supporting and Co-development of Industries and Universities” by writing articles or delivering speeches. They brought up many creative opinions and ideas and made abundant accomplishments.’
