Recently, the 2012 China Robot Competition & Robcup Open was held in China University of Mining and Technology. Teams from Baoding Campus of NCEPU participated in the competition and won a first prize and two second prizes. The "Happy Porter" robot designed by Zhao Lujia, Zhou Guangyang, Wang Jiafang and Pei Shaotong gained second place in handling race of standard platform group and won the first prize; the "Dreaming Triumph" robot designed by Wang Tingren, Xu Wenqi, Meng Ying and Liu Ye won the second prize in the robot handling race of photoelectric group; the "Thunderbolt Fire" robot designed by Xu Wenhao, Hei Yang, Li Lang and Tang Yuan won the second prize in handling race of photoelectric group. This competition was co-hosted by the Chinese Association of Automation Robot Competition Committee, Robocup China Commission and the High Technology Research and Development Center under Ministry of Science and Technology, and undertaken by China University of Mining and Technology and College of Air Force Orderly. The purpose of this event is to promote the popularity of robot science and technology, to encourage more robot enthusiasts to learn, explore, study and practice in the field of high-tech electronics, information, and automatic control, and to train more young people for China's robot cause. This was the first time for NCEPU teams to participate in this competition. The Engineering Training Center, supported by NCEPU leaders and the Office of Academic Affairs and assisted by the Department of Automation, made careful organization for the competition. Within six months, the center helped students complete the main frames of the robots and organized several trainings for team members. The team members finished creative design, production of mechanical structures, electrical control, program control, integrated debugging and other steps, and completed 75 wheeled robot works finally. NCEPU organized a campus robot competition and selected seven teams in accordance with the contest rules. Then, three teams were chosen to participate in the national competition on behalf of NCEPU. Their excellent achievements fully demonstrated the effect of innovative talents training in NCEPU and the important role of the national-level engineering training center in innovation and practical activities. It also showed the scientific and technological innovation capability of NCEPU students and their spirits of advocating science and promoting innovation.
