Alumni Reunion in Baoding Campus

      Reports from Baoding Campus: On April 30th, the graduates of Grade 88 in the former Electric Power Department held alumni symposium in the academic hall of Complex Building for their 20th anniversary. It was attended by NCEPU vice president, Li Heming, deputy secretary of Party Committee, Li Shuangchen, President assistant, Lv Fangcheng, together with the alumni of Grade 88.

      Before the symposium, the alumni first visited the State Key Laboratory of New Energy Power System located in Teaching Building 2, which was set up in both campuses in Beijing and Baoding. Baoding campus was in charge of physical simulation tests while Beijing carried out tests of digital simulation. All alumni showed great concern to solar power and made detailed inquiries toward its tests, exchanging opinions and speaking highly of the solar power tests in NCEPU.

      After the visit, the alumni came to teaching building No. 1 to plant a Chinese pine, a donation for their alma mater, where they took a group photo to mark the occasion.

      At approximately 10 a.m., the symposium was officially opened, hosted by alumni Qu Jianhua and Xiao Yi. General Manager of Chang’an Venture Capital Co., Ltd., and alumnus of Class 883 of electric power, Lv Yangyou, gave an introduction of the preparation for this reunion. He said that this reunion was greatly supported by all the old schoolfellows. Even some in US and German came back to join it. It was successfully held after one-year preparation. Lv expressed great gratitude on behalf of all the graduates for the support from school leaders and alumni association.

      Vice president Li Heming delivered a speech in the symposium. Firstly, he extended hearty welcome to the alumni’ visit, and introduced NCEPU’s development in recent years. He said that as one of key universities of “211 Project” directly affiliated to the Ministry of Education, NCEPU had its Electric Power Science and Engineering listed in Innovation Platform for Preponderant Discipline of “985 Project” and enrolled more than 50,000 registered students consisting of doctors, masters, bachelors, together with professional, adult and oversea students etc. Since the foundation in 1958, NCEPU has cultivated over 100,000 graduates among which many have topped the relevant fields and became the backbone in China’s electric power industry, making tremendous contributions to the development of national power industry, the society and the economy.

      Additionally, vice president Li introduced the university alumni work. He contended that being one of the priorities in university culture construction, alumni activities should aim at promoting the healthy progress of the graduates, their working places along with the alma mater. The alumni association of NCEPU was successfully founded on October 29th, 2011, being one of 30 alumni associations registered in Ministry of Civil Affairs under the supervision of Ministry of Education, and have 45 branches in total at home and abroad. Under the active help of alumni, NCEPU had set up the reward system of Alumni Scholarship, accumulating over 7 million yuan scholarship fund of which 600,000 yuan was distributed as a reward annually. The Alumni Scholarship fund was of great help and an encouragement for those outstanding students in poor family to continue to make progress. Finally, vice president Li wished everyone a glorious holiday, and to be a “triple-good” alumnus with a solid body, harmonious family and good work.

      Deputy Secretary Li Shuangchen addressed the speech and said that the graduates of Grade 88 from former Electric Power Department, based on school’s cultivation and with a decade of hard-working after graduation, had achieved excellent results at their posts and added honor to the alma mater by grasping favorable opportunities in the process of the reform of the national power section. Within the 20 years after graduation, alumni around the country have contributed to NCEPU in various ways, such as scientific cooperation, donating for and publicizing the alma mater etc. Deputy Secretary Li expressed that support and coordination from all old graduates were inseparable to the advancement and construction of NCEPU, and hoped they would consistently contribute to a better and faster development of the alma mater with positive coordination and support.

      Head of Electric Power Department Zhao Shuqiang demonstrated the current structure of the department. Electric Power Department, presently named Electrical & Electronic Engineering School, was divided into Department of Electrical Engineering and Department of Electronic Engineering, possessing national key disciplinary of power system and atomization and provincial key disciplinary of Electrician Theories and New Technology, High Voltage and Insulation Technology. He hoped that the alumni could come back more often to strengthen the communication and connection with the alma mater, offer suggestions and help for its improvement as well as alumni’s personal development. Soon afterwards head teacher of Grade 88 of Electric Power Department, Lv Fangcheng, Zhao Chengyong and other instructors extended their warm welcome and greetings toward present schoolfellows.

      In this reunion, the alumni of Grade 88 from Electric Power Department had donated 200,000 yuan as the school scholarship. Vice president Li Minghe signed the donation agreement on behalf of NCEPU with the representatives of alumni, and received the donation board together with director Zhao Shuqiang.

      Returning to NCEPU 20 years after graduation, and stepping on the familiar road of campus with old memories in mind, all old schoolfellows were filled with emotion. They congratulated on the accomplishment of school development and expressed gratitude for the care, help and alumni activities provided by the school.

      Director of Alumni Affairs Office, Nie Guoxin, head teacher of Grade 88 of electric power, electric power and atomization, and other teachers participated in the alumni party.
