Leaders of Beijing Municipal Science and Technology Commission Led a Research Team to NCEPU

      Leaders of Beijing Municipal Science and Technology Commission and Changping District conducted a survey on scientific development, achievement transformation and relevant development planning of NCEPU by means of field survey and symposium. They had an in-depth discussion with NCEPU leaders on further reinforcing cooperation, pushing the construction of scientific innovation parkin the university as well as promoting scientific and technological innovation and achievement transformation.

      After the meeting with Nigel Fine, CEO of the Institution of Engineering and Technology, President Liu Jizhen gave a warmly welcome to Yan Aoshuang, Director of the Beijing Municipal Science and Technology Commission, Zhang Hong and Wang Jianxin, member of the Beijing Municipal Science and Technology Commission, and Zhou Yunfan, Deputy District Head of Changping District in the square of the Main Building on the afternoon of April 18^th. The two parties had a friendly discussion in Room D216.

      Firstly, President Liu,on behalf of NCEPU,welcomed and thanked Director Yan, Deputy District Head Zhou and other leaders.

      He made a briefly introduction to the basic situation of NCEPU in terms of school history, administrative system, major settings, discipline orientation, scientific research condition, faculty and school scale in the speech.

      Mr. Liu pointed out that as the only national key university featured by energy and electricity disciplines which was affiliated with the Ministry of Education, NCEPU had established the school-running guideline of “Advancement through development of key disciplines, Improvement through talent recruitment, Revitalization through scientific research, and Prospering through highlighting strengths”, attached great importance to national major strategic requirements, formed certain advantages in new energy exploitation and  utilization, energy saving and emission reduction and smart grid, and achieved some results in discipline construction, basic research, talents cultivation, scientific innovation and social service.

     He said that to followed the development national power industry, NCEPU, highlighting its own characteristics, constructed an characteristic discipline system of “Extensive Power Concept”— based on dominant disciplines, centered on emerging energy discipline and supported by the disciplines of liberal arts and sciences; NCEPU had established a number of national-level innovative platforms, such asState Key Laboratory of Alternate Electrical Power System with Renewable Energy Sources, had undertaken numerous“973”Program, “863” Program, “major support” and “international cooperation” programs and had made some landmark achievements.

      Mr. Liu stated that NCEPU had undertaken three projects from “973”Programs for three consecutive years, and won the second prize of the National Scientific and Technological Progress Award in 2011. Furthermore, on the ESI discipline ranking released in 2012, the engineering discipline of NCEPU entered into the 1% of global universities, ranked the 40^th among the mainland universities and 10^th among the non-985 universities. The university had established the development strategy of “taking university-enterprise cooperation road”, positively pushed its collaborative innovation with local organizations, enterprises and scientific research institutes so as to enhance innovation ability and the ability of serving for local economic development.

      He also said that NCEPU had received great aid and support from Beijing Government, Beijing Municipal Science and Technology Commission and Changping District Commission and Government. The delegation’s survey in NCEPU fully demonstrated their care to the scientific innovation park of the university. President Liu believed that NCEPU would take part in economic and cultural construction of Beijing in a broader platform and make greater contribution to scientific innovation and economic development under the support of Beijing Municipal Science and Technology Commission and Changping District Commission and Government.

      Vice President Yang Yongping introduced the conditions and objectives of the scientific park as well as the existing problems during the construction process.

      Director Yan and Deputy District Head Zhou delivered speeches respectively. They gave positive affirmation to the development of NCEPU and industry public platform construction, and provided valuable and practical suggestions on scientific innovation and industrial construction and development for our university.

      They also expressed wishes to cooperate with NCEPU in promoting scientific innovation and scientific achievements transformation, and hoped to have further communication with our university and exclude difficulties and anxieties of NCEPU to realize common development.

      The symposium was chaired by Vice President Sun Zhongquan. He said that NCEPU would, based on its talents and intellectual advantages, grasp the opportunity, better serve the scientific innovation and achievement transformation of Beijing Municipal and Changping District, and make greater contribution to the development of energy power industry and national economic and social construction under the aid and concern of Beijing Municipal Science and Technology Commission and Changping District Commission and Government.

      Zhou Xiaobai, Office Director; Xu Zheng, Director of Major Affairs Office; Xing Yongjie, Division Chief of Social Development Department; Wang Hong, Deputy Division Chief of Policy Regulation and System Reform Department; Gu Hua, Deputy Division Chief of Development and Planning Department; Zhang Qingwen of Technology Propaganda Department; Zhang Qiang ,Director of Productive Center of Beijing Municipal Science and Technology Commission;Li Wanbai, Director of Science and Technology Commission of Changping District as well as headmen of Changping Development and Reform Commission, Bureau of Land and Bureau of Planning also attended the symposium.

      The delegation surveyed State Key Laboratory of Alternate Electrical Power System with Renewable Energy Sources, planning scientific innovation park site and National Engineering Laboratory for Biomass Power Generation Equipment accompanied by Vice President Yang Yongping, Song Zhongquan and relevant department and school heads.
