On the afternoon of April 18, President Liu Jizhen met with Mr. Nigel Fine, chief executive of IET,Lan Mercer, director of International Operations Department, Ding Wei, director of the IET in China, and Chen Weina, the marketing manager.
At the beginning of the meeting, President Liu extended hearty welcome to the visitors. He said he was very concerned about the development of IET over the years, and felt honored as a member of the IET. Not long ago, partnership was set up between IET and NCEPU, and cooperation in fields like personnel training and scientific research was carried out. Subsequently, President Liu made an introduction to Mr. Nigel Fine about the current situations and discipline setting of NCEPU. President Liu also pointed out that the university paid much attention on the cooperation with UK and other European countries. Currently, a good cooperative relation was established between NCEPU and more than 10 universities in UK. In addition, many academic leaders of NCEPU had ever study in UK. In recent years, NCEPU had extensive exchanges with Sweden, Denmark, Germany and other countries in areas such as solar energy, wind energy and so on, as well as collaborates with France in the field of nuclear power. He hoped to expand exchanges with UK in terms of high-level personnel training through partnerships with IET.
Mr. Nigel Fine expressed gratitude for President Liu’s presentation and made a brief introduction of IET. Headquarters in Europe, IET was currently the world's largest association of certified engineers and technicians with 150,000 members, which often held international meetings. Meanwhile, IET was a learning organization in which its members could share their ideas as well as creating ones and they spread the ideas to the world. Besides, as a commonweal organization, it hoped to have greater international influence. IET put much emphasis on the cooperation with China and wished to establish cooperative relations with NCEPU, providing more chances for students and teachers to learn about IET and join it. Soon after, President Liu said that at present China is still little known to the world and he hoped more and more people could know about China through our cooperation with IET.
This meeting was also attended by Liu Shi, head of Control and Computer Engineering School, Zhu Zhengmao, deputy director of Science and Technology Office, and Liu Yongqian, director of International Cooperation Office.
