The Commencement Ceremony of NCEPU’s Research Institute in Suzhou Held

      In the morning of April 20^th, the commencement ceremony of NCEPU’s Research Institute in Suzhou was grandly held in its construction area in Suzhou Dushu Lake science-education and innovation zone (located in higher education region) in Sangtian Island. Executive vice director of administrative commission in Suzhou Dushu Lake science-education and innovation zone, Jiang Weiming presided over the ceremony.

      The occasion was attended by president of NCEPU, Prof. Liu Jizhen, vice presidents of NCEPU, Prof. Yang Yongping and Sun Zhongquan, director of administrative commission in Suzhou Industrial Park, Yang Zhiping, vice president of Jiangsu electric power company and general manager of Suzhou power supply corporation, Jiang Bin, together with roughly 120 relevant officials from Suzhou Bureau of Science and Technology, Suzhou Dushu Lake higher education region as well as NCEPU.

      Secretary of Suzhou municipal & standing committee and Suzhou Industrial Park Ma Minglong held talks with President Liu Jizhen on the present situation and future development plan of Suzhou Research Institute. In the talk, both sides fully affirmed the accomplishments of the institute and expressed that they would be consistently supportive and concerned with its construction and progress.

      In the ceremony, vice president of NCEPU Yang Yongping, on behalf of Suzhou Research Institute, gave a first presentation on the construction of present project and its future development plan. He said the institute, covering 48 hectares, had a total construction area of 60,323 square metres and an investment of 325 million Yuan. It was a first-stage building which integrated scientific research (23020 square meters for smart grids scientific research area and Industrial Park), with achievement transformation, instruction (10027 square meters), administration (2892 square metres) and public services. After the first-stage construction, the Institute planned to accommodate around 1800 students, faculty (1500 students, 300 teachers and researchers). Vice president Yang introduced the future development plan of Suzhou Research Institute from the following five perspectives: introduction of high-level talents, construction of national key laboratory, construction of state smart grids university Science Park, recruitment and cultivation of postgraduates, as well as collaborative search for innovation by the university and local government.

      President Liu Jizhen made an important speech in the ceremony. He extended warm welcome to present guests, expressed thanks to officials of Suzhou for their support over the years, and meanwhile offered consolation to the working staff responsible for the institute construction.

      In the speech, President Liu pointed out that it was a significant event to set up and develop Suzhou institute in our course of constructing a high level university. It was also a new form for NCEPU to merge into state innovation system, to further co-operations between the university and local organizations. under the policy of building a distinctive industry-and-research oriented university，guided by the principle of “taking Suzhou as a base, to serve the development of Yangtze river delta to promote East China’s economic progress”, NCEPU would focus on frontier and core fields of energy and electric power development such as smart grids construction, energy-saving emission reduction, exploitation and utilization of new energy etc. Relying on its disciplinary advantage and foundation, NCEPU decided to make the institute a modernized entity with functions of scientific innovation, talents cultivation, achievements industrialization etc. through numerous measures including introducing and cultivating high-level research talents, carrying out high-rank cooperative projects, promoting transformation of High-Tech research findings and so forth.

      Finally, Suzhou institute would become the base of most featured and powerful high-level scientific research, scientific achievement transformation and industrialization as well as high level talent training in Suzhou and Yangtze river delta.

      After the speech, vice president Sun Zhongquan on behalf of NCEPU signed strategic cooperation agreement with Suzhou Industrial Park, Suzhou Heshun Electric Co., Ltd. and Jiangsu Banshen Solar Co., Ltd.

     Director of NCEPU Industrial Management Office and executive vice president of Suzhou Research Institute Yao Kaiwen, representative of Suzhou Huadian Sci-Tech Park Management Co., Ltd.,, signed the Agreement of Transforming Technological Achievements' into Park with Canada Joint Fluid System Co., Ltd.

      Finally, President Liu Jizhen, vice-president Yang Yongping and Sun Zhongquan, director of the Party School Office Wang Qinghua, director of Suzhou Industrial Park, Yang Zhiping, along with general manager Jiang Bin of Suzhou Power Supply Company pressed the operating button together, officially declaring the start of Suzhou Institute's first-phase project.

      At 15:30 p.m, President Liu and other 9 officials visited Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University, and conducted an in-depth investigation on new-type Chinese-foreign cooperation in international enrollment, teaching management and school-running mode.

      After the investigation, President Liu and other leaders came to Suzhou Research Institute's temporary offices and had a discussion with the comrades there. President Liu fully affirmed Suzhou Institute's achievements in recent years and said the smooth start of the Research Institute was a new beginning. It was full of challenges for the Institute to design its future and to decide how to make full use of the outside cooperator—an open Suzhou filled with brand-new internationalized concept. Therefore strong sense of responsibility and joint efforts of all departments were needed to plan Suzhou Research Institute.

      President Liu pointed out that, the future development of Suzhou Research Institute should be adhere to connotation principle, and make a comprehensive schedule from talents training, platform construction, achievement transformation, technological innovation and new industries development etc.. Meanwhile, the Institute should expand exchanges of the alumni’s work, promote multi-directional and multi-channel cooperation with power companies in Jiangsu province as well as in Suzhou, and fully improve its sound and rapid development. President Liu hoped that, through joint efforts, we would build Suzhou Research Institute as one of the best institute in the local area.

      Zhao Xiuguo, director of NCEPU Personnel Department, Zhao Dongmei, executive vice-president of the Graduate School,  Tan Qinliang, director of Science and Technology Department, Hu Sangao, director of School-Enterprise Cooperation Office and Liu Feiyi, director of Infrastructure Department participated in the opening ceremony and investigation.
