The opening ceremony of “Discipline Innovation and Talent Introduction Base for Clean Transformation and Effective Application of Coal” was held from April 10th to 12th in NCEPU. On the morning of April 10th, the opening ceremony was held in the multifunctional hall in the main building.
President Liu Jizhen, Vice President Yang Yongping, Director Li Yuhong of Planning Department of Division of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Education and Director Wang Song of Planning Department of Division of Culture and Education, State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs, members of “Discipline Innovation and Talent Introduction Base for Clean Transformation and Effective Application of Coal” and main heads of relevant departments and schools attended the ceremony. On October 2011, “Discipline Innovation and Talent Introduction Base for Clean Transformation and Effective Application of Coal” reported by Professor Yang Yongping was enlisted into the first group of “University Discipline Innovation & Talent Introduction Plan” during the “Twelfth Five-Year Plan”. It was the second of its kind in NCEPU since 2007.
At the opening ceremony, President Li expressed warm welcome to experts and leaders on behalf of NCEPU and extended sincere thanks for their long-time concern and aid to international scientific and technological cooperation and talents introduction in NCEPU. President Liu said that faced with China’s major strategic needs of clean and efficient utilization of coal, NCEPU had established discipline group of transformation and efficient utilization of energy, with dominant discipline ---energy power being the core and chemical engineering and environmental engineering playing the supporting role, and had formed the utilization pattern of coal-based polygeneration system featured by efficient power generation and chemical products and pollutants control. In addition, NCEPU had achieved high-level results with autonomous intellectual property concerning efficient and clean utilization of coal, supercritical coal-fired power, large simulation of generator, power plant information monitoring and power energy saving, contributing a lot to the development of national electric power industry. Our university had established long-time scientific and educational cooperation partnership with University of Edinburgh, Princeton University and University of Western Australia on efficient and clean utilization of coal under the support of the Ministry of Education and Foreign Experts Affairs. Based on the dominant discipline---energy power, taking thermal power national engineering technology research center as the platform, “Discipline Innovation and Talent Introduction Base for Clean Transformation and Effective Application of Coal” had attracted many high-level scholars from partner universities to conduct interdisciplinary research, construct “ Large Energy” discipline---“ Energy Power plus Energy Chemical plus Energy Environment”, which would promote NCEPU’s science and technology innovation ability and international influence in energy power field, and then make contributions to clean transformation and efficient utilization of coal resources. President Liu also thanked Foreign Experts Affairs and the Ministry of Education for their support and trust, and he said that “Discipline Innovation and Talent Introduction Base for Clean Transformation and Effective Application of Coal” was the second of its kind in NCEPU. NCEPU would provide powerful guarantee as usual to achieve fruitful results.
Vice President Yang Yongping, the project leader, made an introduction to the project in the aspects of construction background, research content, project team, construction goal as well as management approach.
Director Wang Song congratulated on the official launch of base and hoped that NCEPU would make innovations in intelligence introduction pattern, provide corresponding support for the base, emphasize management and efficiency, as well as pay attention to base construction during the cooperation with foreign first-class universities and research institutions.
Director Li Yuhong hoped that “Discipline Innovation and Talent Introduction Base for Clean Transformation and Effective Application of Coal” would further condense research orientation, enhance research level, aim at international top-goal, form high-level international competitive force and accomplish various construction goals successfully.
Dongke ZHANG, academic master of “Discipline Innovation and Talent Introduction Base for Clean Transformation and Effective Application of Coal”, academia of energy field of the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering, the first chemical engineering professor of University of Western Australia, Director of Energy Center stated that he would cooperate with all base members, make innovations continuously, guarantee the development of project construction and make great efforts to achieve construction goals.
President Liu awarded letters of appointment to experts of “Discipline Innovation and Talent Introduction Base for Clean Transformation and Effective Application of Coal”.
The base members would listen to academic reports, discuss the project cooperation pattern, task, role and guideline, talk over main research work and content as well as make sure the plan for 2 years or 5years in the three-day opening meeting. In the meantime, the meeting would construct a platform for experts at home and abroad regarding topics that interest them.
Based on the dominant discipline---energy power, taking thermal power national engineering technology research center as the platform, “Discipline Innovation and Talent Introduction Base for Clean Transformation and Effective Application of Coal” had absorbed many advanced academic thoughts and methods from more than 20 experts of Australia, Europe and North America. The project strives to accomplish the goal of promoting NCEPU’s discipline construction and improving national energy economic development in turn, lay theoretical foundation and engineering data for the clean and efficient utilization of coal resources. Moreover, the project would be conducted in the fields of science and technology of coal, carbon dioxide gathering as well as coal-based polygeneration system. “University Discipline Innovation & Talent Introduction Plan” aims to grasp the opportunity to push the process of building national universities into world first-class universities. Jointly implemented by the Ministry of Education and Foreign Experts Affairs, targeted at international discipline leading edge, centered on national development goal, Project 111 brings in more than 1000 talents from dominant discipline teams of top 100 global universities and institutions and forms a high-level research team, establishes 100 world-class disciple research and education bases so as to improve national universities’ overall level and international status. Based on the implementation of Project 111 in the Eleventh Five-Year Plan period and the overall planning of the Twelfth Five-Year Plan period, the Ministry of Education and Foreign Experts Affairs jointly launched the construction work of “Project 111” in the Twelfth Five-Year Plan period. 34 bases are finally approved as the 2012 construction projects after the expert review.
