On March 18th, the third National Undergraduate Mathematical Contest finals hosted by Chinese Mathematical Society was held in Tongji University. Three students of NCEPU(Beijing campus) that Wang Yanning from school of Energy, Power and Mechanical Engineering, Fu Xiwei from school of Electrical & Electronic Engineering, and Cao Chuang from school of Control and Computer Engineering won the second award of non-mathematical group of the contest. The contest was simultaneously held in 28 provinces, autonomous regions and municipality directly under the Central Government on October 29th, 2011. Altogether 43648 college students from more than 500 universities such as Peking University, Tsinghua University and Tongji University took part in the preliminaries competition, among whom 9831 students were majored in mathematics and 33817students in non-mathematics. After the 28 division preliminaries selection, 285 students including 20 students majored in non-mathematics from Beijing division, entered into the finals. Wang Yanning, Cao Chuang and Fu Xiwei led by Peng Wu’an from Mathematics and Physics Department of NCEPU participated in the finals. There were 18 first prizes, 27 second prizes and 42 third prizes in mathematical department, as well as 38 first prizes, 54 second prizes and 85 third prizes in non-mathematical department in this finals section, China Undergraduate Mathematical Contestwas held by Chinese Mathematical Society annually since 2009, that consists two phases---preliminaries and finals with each dividing into “mathematical department” and “non-mathematical department”. The contest aimed to enhance students’ interest in learning mathematics, provide a platform for excellent students to show their mathematical talents, select outstanding mathematical talent, promote the reform and development of university mathematical education, and improve students’ mathematical level comprehensively. Therefore, the contest has become one of the most influential discipline competitions with many participants. The contest reflected the level of basic mathematics teaching of NCEPU as well as embodied the teaching ability of maths teachers.
