Leaders of CLEF and Beijing Overseas Chinese Affairs Office Visited NCEPU

        Zuo Zhiqiang, Vice Chairman and Secretary General of Chinese Language and Culture Education Foundation of China (CLEF), Lu Haibin, Deputy Secretary General of CLEF, and Chu Shimin, Deputy Director of The Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the People’s Government of Beijing Municipality, paid a visit to NCEPU on the morning of March 9^th. President Liu Jizhen and Vice President Sun Pingsheng warmly welcomed the officials. Liu Yongqian, Director of International Cooperation Office and Executive Deputy Director of International Education School, presided over the conference.

        Director Liu Yongqian firstly introduced the current situation of international education in NCEPU and the achievements NCEPU had made in Chinese language and culture education.

        Subsequently, Deputy Director Chu Shimin talked about the National emphasis on overseas Chinese affairs, the responsibility of the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office as well as its cooperation with NCEPU. He said that the Chinese immigrants were much concerned about the descendants’ inheritance of traditional Chinese culture, mastery of the Chinese language and literature. He believed that the NCEPU International Education School had the advantage of undertaking relevant projects based on previous communication.

        Secretary General Zuo Zhiqiang briefly introduced the basic situation of CLEF, which was officially founded in September, 2004 under the advocacy of General Secretary Hu Jintao with the mission of “carrying forward traditional Chinese culture, developing Chinese language and culture education, and promoting international cultural exchange”. Under the supervision of Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council, CLEF is composed of fourteen ministries and commissions, one democratic party and three universities. The Overseas Chinese around the world had a good tradition of and longing for learning and carrying forward excellent traditional Chinese culture. As a non-profit national public foundation, CLEF had  been always insisting on its mission, giving full play to its unique advantages, striving to carry forward Chinese culture, developing Chinese language and culture education, and promoting international cultural exchange. Mr. Zuo had high hopes for International Education School to undertake relevant projects related to Chinese language and culture education.

        Finally, Vice President Sun Pingsheng stated that, NCEPU was more than an industry university nowadays, with multidiscipline as an important feature. He was sure that with distinct, serious and rigorous culture, namely, the “industrial culture”, NCEPU would successfully cooperate with government departments concerning Chinese language and culture education.

        After the conference, the guests visited the campus, accompanied by Director Li Qiang from Project Department No. 1, Director Li Xiaomei from Project Department No. 2 of CLEF, and Guan Yingwu, Director of Publicity Department of The Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the People’s Government of Beijing Municipality. Li Yang, Secretary of Party General Branch of the International Education School, Vice President Duan Chunming and Professor Huo Yueli also attended the conference.
