NCEPU Scientific Research Team Led by Prof. Yang Yongping Won Second Prize of 2011 National Award for Science and Technology Progress

        The 2011 National Science & Technology Award Ceremony was held on the morning of February 14^th, in which the project “Key Technology for Optimization Design and Operation of Air Cooling System in Large-scale Thermal Power Generating Units and Its Application”, implemented by an NCEPU scientific research team led by Prof. Yang Yongping, was awarded second prize of 2011 National Award for Science and Technology Progress.

      NCEPU, accomplish unit of the project, acquired assistance from North China Power Engineering Co., Ltd, Beijing Yi Qiwei Shouhang Energy Saving Technology Co., Ltd, and China Guodian Corporation.

        National leaders Hu Jintao, Wen Jiabao, Li Changchun, and Li Keqiang attended the award ceremony and rendered awards to representatives. On behalf of CPC and the State Council, Wen Jiabao, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and premier of the State Council, delivered a speech at the ceremony presided by Li Keqiang, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and deputy premier of the State Council. Liu Yandong, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and State Councilor, released Decision on National Award for Science and Technology Progress 2011Made by the State Council. Hu Jintao, General Secretary of CPC and President of PRC, and other national leaders met representatives who won awards, including Prof. Yang Yongping from NCEPU.

        The NCEPU scientific research team, led by Prof. Yang Yongping, carried out long-time and in-depth research into key technology for design and operation of large-scale direct air cooling system and made a series of breakthrough. The achievement they made may reduce coal consumption, and may present prominent economic and social benefit with its promotion.

        In order to award people and organizations that make brilliant contribution to scientific and technology progress, China set 5 national scientific and technology awards, namely, National Top Science and Technology Award, National Prize for Natural Sciences, National Award for Technological Invention, National Award for Science and Technology Progress, and International Scientific and Technological Cooperation Prize of PRC. The annual National Science & Technology Award Ceremony is considered an annual feast in the scientific and technological circles.

        374 projects and 10 experts received awards in the 2011 National Award for Science and Technology Progress. Among them, 2 people won National Top Science and Technology Award. 36 projects were awarded second prize of National Prize for Natural Sciences (no first prize). 2 projects won first prize of National Award for Technological Invention, and 53 won second prize. 283 projects received National Award for Science and Technology Progress, including 1 top award, 20 first prizes and 262 second prizes. 8 foreign scientists acquired International Scientific and Technological Cooperation Prize of PRC.
