Professor Walter Johnstone Paid a Visit to NCEPU

        Walter Johnstone, Deputy Dean of Engineering School, Professor Luo Guolin, academician of the Royal Society, senior expert engaged in power engineering and Director of Electric Power System Research Team, and Gillian McArthur of Enrollment Department from University of Strathclyde paid a visit to NCEPU from November 23rd to 25th.

        Yang Yongping, Vice President of NCEPU, welcomed the British guests on November 23rd. Director Liu Yongqian, Deputy Director Xu Lingling, of International Cooperation Office, Deputy Dean Duan Chunming of International Education School, Deputy Deans Ai Xin and Li Gengyin of Electrical & Electronic Engineering School also attended the meeting.

        Vice President Yang Yongping firstly extended warm welcome to all the guests. He said that NCEPU and University of Strathclyde had established deep friendship and long-term cooperation. At present, the two universities extensively cooperated in  joint student cultivation, teaching staff exchange and scientific research. He looked forward to in-depth cooperation with new opportunities and challenges, and suggested that the two universities should jointly found joint research center for smart grid and build the cooperation committee with professors from the two universities. Professor Walter was very interested in the proposal and hoped that the program would be conducted in the near future. Subsequently, two sides exchanged ideas ove on “2+2” programs in Electrical & Electronic Engineering. Professor Walter Johnstone was contended with NCEPU students’ academic performances in Britain, and the two sides reached agreement on future cooperation.

        In the afternoon, Professor Walter Johnstone and Professor Luo Guolin delivered splendid speeches about overseas study in Britain for students from Electrical & Electronic Engineering School, covering the basic situation, Department of Electrical Engineering, the study and campus life of  NCEPU students there, which aroused students’ great interests. After the speech, students put forward various questions and had discussion on interested topics with those professors.

 

        On November 24th, the delegation of University of Strathclyde visited NCEPU Baoding campus. Upon invitation, Professor Luo Guolin delivered an academic speech titledSynchronization and Integration of Wind Power. Teachers and students in Baoding campus attended the speech intently.

 

 

 

        Introduction to University of Strathclyde: Founded in 1796, University of Strathclyde has gradually become one of the most famous universities in British since the 19 century. As one of its most outstanding disciplines, Electronic and Electrical Engineering occupies the leading position in Britian and receives the highest grant from Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC). The Institute for Energy and Environmental Research attracts great attention from the British Government. NCEPU has conducted “2+2” joint programs with University of Strathclyde since 2004, cultivating over 200 undergraduate students, most of whom choze to continue pursuing masters’ and doctoral degrees.
