President Liu Jizhen Led a Research Team to Baoding Campus

        On November 8^th, President Liu Jizhen, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee Li Shuangchen, Vice President Yang Yongping, President Assistant Mi Zengqiang and Lv Fangcheng and persons in charge of President Office, Major Project Management Office, Science and Technology Administration Department had an in-depth survey of the scientific research in Baoding campus.

        After hearing the work report of Industry Management Office, Business Administration School, Automation School, Environment Engineering and Science School, Power Engineering School,  Electrical & Electronic Engineering School, the research team learned the basic situation of innovation platform, innovation programs and innovation teams in Baoding campus as well as the construction of the Baoding Science Park. Subsequently, the team surveyed the Baoding site of State Key Laboratory of Alternate Electrical Power System with Renewable Energy Sources, and Hebei Key Laboratory of Safety Defense for Electric Transmission and Transformation Equipments, and communicated with relevant school leaders, academic leaders and young teachers.

        During the survey, President Liu Jizhen first confirmed the progress made in scientific innovation by some departments and school, then analyzed gaps and shortcomings based on the current situation in different departments, discussed the discipline development direction and possible future breakthrough points, as well as proposed new demands and specific arrangement for future work.

        President Liu pointed out in the speech that enhancing independent innovation ability had become the national strategy, especially for universities, which was stressed by President Hu Jintao in his speech for Centennial Anniversary of Tsinghua University. The Ministry of Education would carry out The Plan of Improving University Innovation (“2011 Plan”) to support sci-tech innovation in universities. President Liu said that under such new circumstances, we should strengthen the confidence in building a high-level university, grasp the opportunity of development, further emancipate minds, center on “collaborative innovation”, aim at national needs and the world frontier, practically carry forward the collaborative innovation in  cooperation between universities, university-enterprise cooperation, university-local government cooperation and international cooperation, and actively endeavor to attend the pilot project of “2011 Plan”.

        In the end, President Liu emphasized that the construction of a high-level university required strategic planning as well as practical action. He called that we should pinpoint the orientation and work with perseverance. As for scientific research, we should pay adequate attention to platform construction, programs and team cultivation, to sum up, “platform, program, and team”. Standing on a higher level, we should actively integrate various resources, bravely explore new fields, strive to make symbolic achievements so as to implement the goal, ideas and plans of building a high-level university.
