    NCEPU Gets the Highest Marks in National College Students’ Engineering Training Comprehensive Ability Competition

    From Baoding Campus: In The Second National College Students’ Engineering Training Comprehensive Ability Competition (The Competition hereafter) taking place from June 2nd to June 5th, NCEPU’s team including 3 students from Mechanical Department, namely Wu Peng, Liu Huan and He Tianjin, get the first place, standing out of 79 attending teams.
 

    The Competition is a kind of scientific and technological innovation competition held by the Ministry of Education. Based on comprehensive engineering teaching platform of domestic colleges and universities, it aims to deepen experimental teaching reform, promote college students´ sense of innovation, practical ability and team-work spirits, and facilitate the cultivation of creative competent personnel. The Competition is held for the second time this year. By province-level selections, a total of 79 representative teams enter the final sponsored by Higher Education Division of the Ministry of Education and held by Dalian University of Technology.

    The proposition of the Competition is “Carbon-free cart”, requiring competitors to design a cart with direction control function to go around obstacles and derived only by given geo-potential. Competitors are required to design a cart that can meet the above requirements, and produce, assemble and debug it to make it fit for the track on spot. Besides, four texts on design plan, technological process, cost analysis and engineering management are to be accessed and checked up. The Competition is considered as a competition that can examine students’ comprehensive ability for it involves various disciplines such as mechanical design and manufacture, materialogy, engineering management, art design, etc.

    This year is the second time that NCEPU have participated in such a competition and leaders of NCEPU pay much attention to it. The Dean´s Office and Engineering Training Center organized it carefully, the Mechanical Department gives firm support, and it takes more than three months to go through competitor selection, training, plan designing, manufacturing and in-campus competition. At the end of last year, two teams of NCEPU participated in trials of Hebei province and got the highest and the second highest marks and the first prize of provincial level, thus qualified for the national final. However, with quota limit, each school could only send one team to attend the final.

    Since this term, the three students have made full preparation for the Competition under the guidance of teachers, with the design plan adjusted many times and a number of carts made. On June 1st, the cart with the longest range was selected and carried to Dalian University of Technology for the semifinal. In the semifinal, though they didn´t have a trial run on the track, they adjusted and modified the cart spontaneously and timely under the guiding teacher´s instruction. In the end, the cart went around 32 obstacles and NCEPU’s team got the first prize with 37.64 meters range, defeating 79 teams of other universities.
 
    In recent years, NCEPU has been attaching great importance to practical teaching and deepened the cultivation of students´ practical engineering ability and creative ability. With the support of relevant departments and the extensive participation of teachers and students, and through the continuous efforts of the participating students and guiding teacher, the teaching level of mechanical innovation and practical engineering training makes new breakthrough. A large group of students in NCEPU make great breakthrough in various competitions after practice of mechanical innovation and practical engineering training, and gain obvious achievements of talents cultivation. The achievements in the Competition are owned to the obvious advantages in practical engineering ability to find and resolve spontaneous problems timely.
 
    In the Competition, students practice their comprehensive practical ability and construct a good learning and practice atmosphere, which can help positively promote NCEPU’s teaching level of engineering training and the quality of innovative talents.
