Under the meticulous organization of Major Project Management Office, Department of International Cooperation, Scientific Research Office and other functional departments, the research team from Renewable Energy School and Energy and Power Engineering School, with the cooperation of Edinburgh University, has applied the 2010 research project “Applied and Basic Research of Carbon Dioxide New Solid-phase Absorption Capture (FOCUS): the circulating fluidized-bed combustion technology facing coal-fired power plant amine functional absorbent”. This project is jointly funded by National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) and England Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC). In early October, NSFC announced the five funded projects, and the four corresponding Chinese partners: Chinese Academy of Sciences, Shanxi Institute of Coal Chemistry, Dalian Institute of Chemical Physical (DICP), Tsinghua University and North China Electric Power University.

With many years of joint efforts by NCEPU research personnel and Professor Stefano Brandani and Professor Jon Gibbins of Edinburgh University, this is another project jointly funded by Chinese and British sides on the capture and utilization of carbon dioxide, after NCEPU and Edinburgh University signed the memorandum “China-UK Joint Center for Carbon Abatement Technology”. At the project kick-off meeting, the two sides further defined the details of exchange of researchers and graduate students.
