The Sixth World Congress on Industrial Process Tomography (WCIPT6), sponsored by The International Society for Industrial Process Tomography(ISIPT) and North China Electric Power University(NCEPU), co-sponsored by Beijing University of Aeronautics&Astronautics(BUAA), was held at the conference center in the main building of BUAA from September 6th to 9th,. The aim of the congress is to promote and strengthen cooperation among scientists from various countries in the industrial process tomography field, as well as to discuss the development direction in the future.

During the opening ceremony, Xiong Xiaoyun, Director of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, made an opening speech and highly appreciated the achievements made by the congress staffs. Lynn Gladden, an academician of The Royal Society, Royal Academy of Engineering, Royal Society of Chemistry and vice president of the University of Cambridge delivered an excellent speech later.

Liu Jizhen, President of NCEPU is also the honorary president of this conference. Professor Liu Shi, president of this conference and Dean of Control & Computer Engineering School of NCEPU, Professor Masahiro Takei from Nihon University, Professor Wang Mi from Leeds University, and Professor Xu Lijin from BUAA made splendid speech respectively at the opening ceremony.

Attended also were nearly 200 representatives from China, British, the United States, Germany, Norway, Japan, Austria, Poland, Russia, South Africa, India, Malaysia, South Korea and Mexico. Representatives not only had a detailed discussion on methods and techniques concerning the industrial process tomography, but also exchanged ideas extensively and thoroughly on research findings in aspects such as flow, transportation, reaction and distribution that are related with the visualized measurement theory and visually detect technique in industrial process.

Since most of the representatives are scientific research personnel at college, the academic exchanges among universities all over the world are promoted. The communication among researchers from University of Cambridge, University of Manchester, University of Leeds, Nihon University, North China Electric Power University, Tianjin University, Beijing University of Aeronautics&Astronautics on industrial process tomography-related techniques, has provided more opportunities for their further cooperation.
