NCEPU Spring Sports Meeting 2010 Opened

The NCEPU Spring Sports Meeting 2010 was solemnly opened in the morning of May 21. Leaders such as Wu Zhigong, Liu Jizhen, An Liansuo, Li Heming, Li Chengrong, Hao Yingjie and Sun Ping, and the mass of teachers and students attended the opening ceremony. What was more, Chen Zhong, the gold metal winner of the Women’s +67kg Taekwondo at the 28th Athens Olympic Games and the 27th Sydney Olympics was invited to join the ceremony which was presided by Mr. Sun Zhongquan, Assistant President and Director of the Party School Office. 

    At 8:30 a.m., judges and athletes marched into the arena. To the sound of impassioned athlete march, the opening was accompanied with the guiding group consisting of the national flag guard, the game flag square, school flag square, the red banner square and the flower team. The 27 squares, representing all the departments and labor union branches, made their presence with distinctive features in proper order. 

    After the flag-raising ceremony, Mr. Wu Zhigong, Secretary of the Leading Party Group at NCEPU and Director of the Sports Meeting Board delivered the opening speech. On behalf of the party committee and administrative department of NCEPU, he warmly congratulated on the solemn opening, and expressed heartfelt thanks to those who had put in a lot of hard work to the preparation of this occasion. As a social activity that has been gaining wide interest, sports could not only build up our health, but also foster our spirit to struggle, train our character to go beyond ourselves and strengthen our will to take challenges. Moreover, sports would do help us foster our sense of competitiveness and spirit of cooperation. Furthermore, sports meeting would enrich our culture life and play a role of great importance to pass down collectivism and patriotism, as well as strengthen national and ethnic solidarity and cohesion. 

    Secretary Wu pointed out “NCEPU has been applying Scientific Outlook on Development and making arduous efforts to construct a high-level university according to the development strategy of Three Steps and Six Strategic Tasks. Sports level of a university is not only a reflection of its overall strength, but also a comprehensive expression of physical strength, intelligence and willpower of faculty and students. Therefore, striving to develop sport is a crucial factor in reinforcing the cultural construction of a high-level university.” He also hoped that all faculty and students could set up the view of lifelong exercise, carry forward the Olympic spirit, and compete to their full capacity and compete with sportsmanship. In the end, Secretary Wu wished delegations achieve excellent results and the sports meeting a complete success.

    Student Wu Haiyan from Electrical and Electronic Engineering School and teacher Zhu Yan from Department of Physical Education took oath on behalf of athletes and judges respectively. They said that they would abide by rules and disciplines of the game and take the sports meeting seriously and carefully.

    President Liu announced the official opening of the 2010 spring sports meeting.

    It is reported that the spring sport meet was held in May 21 and 22 with more than 1300 athletes have taken part in the intense competition of 71 events. Moreover, Sports Moral Awards will be conferred in order to hold a better sports meet as well as to achieve spiritual civilization and the enhancement of sports level.

    During the opening ceremony, leaders, faculty and students watched splendid sports performances. With Knives slashing and fans waving, martial arts---Repay the Country with Supreme Loyalty performed by students not only combined softness and hardness, but also manifested extensive and profound Chinese martial arts; faculty group’s dance Proud Builder presented their positive attitude through the dynamic rhythm and beautiful figure; the aerobics dance which had won the first prize in the Beijing Municipal Universities and Colleges Aerobics Contest was really breathtaking, and 16 students interpreted youthful style with passion and vigor; the last show traditional lion dances performed by Beijing Sport University won tremendous applause for their skilled movements and exquisite performance.
