In order to select the best students to pursue advanced studies in the leading universities abroad, the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Finance set up the program “High-level Universities Construction— Program for State-funded Students Studying abroad” in 2007, with CSC responsible for the implementation. The purpose of this program is to carry out the strategy of developing the country through science, technology and education as well as the strategy of reinvigorating China through human resource development, train creative talents that are badly needed in all industries and promote the building of high-level universities.
Full-time students, no more than 35 years old, (target-area students and students enrolled by contract not included) can apply for the funding, including the graduating bachelor degree students, students pursuing a MA degree (including graduating master degree students), first-year doctoral students and doctoral students who is to be enrolled in our school in the same year. Key areas include energy, resources, environment, agriculture, manufacturing, information, life, space, marine, nano, new materials as well as humanities and applied social sciences. The funding covers round-trip travel expenses, scholarships and living costs in the specified study period.
In the past three years, in order to strengthen the building of a research- oriented university, promote the development of key disciplines, upgrade the level of personnel training and scientific research, the Graduate School has been constantly improving the working systems and standardizing the selection process so as to ensure a fair selection, which laid a good foundation for smooth selection. Most of the students who have been sent to pursue further studies abroad by our school are studying in such developed countries as US, Canada, Japan, Sweden, UK and Belgium. They have promoted the cooperation and exchange between our school and the well-known universities abroad and have speeded up our process of building a first-class university.
