NCEPU Held Opening Ceremony for the Freshmen and General Assembly to Celebrate Teachers’ Day on Baoding Campus

NCEPU held opening ceremony for the freshmen and general assembly to celebrate Teachers’ Day on Baoding campus on September the 10th, 2009. School leaders Wu Zhigong, Liu Jizhen, Zhang Jinhui, An Liansuo, Li Heming, Lei Yingqi, Li Shuangchen, Hao Yingjie, Yang Yongping, president assistants Yin Chengqun, Mi Zengqiang, Lv Fangcheng, Guo Xiaofeng, some other school leaders, alumni representatives, representatives of commended teachers, students representatives and more than 2300 freshmen participated in the ceremony. Zhang Jinhui, deputy secretary of NCEPU party committee, presided over the assembly.

    The ceremony opened with the majestic national anthem. At the ceremony, those teacher representatives who have worked in NCEPU for at least 30 years, those teacher representatives who were awarded major prizes in teaching or scientific and technological research, those excellent collectives and individuals, those teachers who were awarded model head teachers and those freshmen who had made outstanding achievements in the college entrance examination were commended and awarded.
    President Liu delivered a speech at the ceremony. He first expressed his congratulations and warm welcome to those freshmen who were admitted to NCEPU on behalf of NCEPU party committee and executive board. He also sent his sincere thanks to their parents and greetings and respect to the school faculty.
    President Liu introduced the enrollment of NCEPU in 31 provinces and regions all over China. He said he was really pleased that such a large number of outstanding talents gathered in NCEPU. He pointed out that facing world energy strategy development trend and national demand for scientific and technological talents, NCEPU, aiming at building a high level university and keeping pace with the times, is building a featured wide-power disciplinary based on traditional advantageous discipline, focused on new emerging energy discipline and supported by arts and sciences. And we speeded up the development of those new emerging energy disciplines such as nuclear power, hydropower, wind power, solar power, biomass power etc. We are working constantly to build a unique system of academic disciplines and turn the development demand of our country into our school running goals.
     President Liu explained that major progress has been made in the current stage of practicing the Scientific Outlook on development. Relying firmly on the practical carrier of “Based on a new starting point, planning a new development, and improving the construction of high level university” and based on the 50-year school running experience, NCPEU has clearly put forward a three-step development strategy to conduct high level university construction and further defined the development direction and aimed to advance the process. During the study and practice of Scientific Outlook on Development, typical experience of NCPEU has aroused the great attention of the Propaganda Department of the Central Committee and the leading group of national studies and practical activities, while main media like Xinhua News Agency, People’s Daily; CCTV and Guangming Daily also report about this experience from different aspects.
    He wished that in the coming semester, all the staff of NCEPU, guided by the principle of “running a responsible university”, could work harder and energetically, strengthen professional skills, hold a rigorous approach to teaching and academic research, cherish posts and devote wholehearted to work, love the students and be ready to sacrifice to reach the goal of a high level university as soon as possible.
    President Liu encouraged all the students to have a lofty aspiration and keep at heart the interests of our motherland. He urged that at the 60th anniversary of the founding of New China, college students should have a lofty ideal to closely connect personal development with the future of our country and conscientiously undertake the historical missions and social responsibilities to realize personal value in serving both the country and the nation. They should fasten the basis of each course conscientiously and firmly, think and practice diligently to train personal innovation modes of thinking in the process of study and practice so as to become a highly-qualified talent with broad and profound knowledge, exploration spirit and innovation capacity. They should also have a positive and ambitious life ideal as well as a sound and indomitable personality to take social responsibilities and try to be the pillar of the state.
    Teacher representative, Professor Zhao Yi spoke at the meeting. He first congratulated the freshmen on their entry into NCPEU, the highest university of electric power in China, which would achieve the leap-forward development of their life. Then he encouraged all the students to continue to follow NCPEU spirit, namely “self-discipline, loyalty for the university and the work and pursuit of excellence”, and try to be qualified talents that are needed in social development.
    Alumnus Hu Guangyu, on behalf of all the alumni of NCEPU, showed great gratitude for the respected teachers and expressed good wishes to Alma Master with a fifty-one-year history. He said that he took great pride in the achievement that NCEPU has made and earnestly expected that the freshmen could work hard, lead a thrifty and simple life, carry out all the work successfully and hold an honest attitude to do credit to the development of NCEPU.
    Representatives of both new students and undergraduates successively gave speeches. They indicated their feelings for solidarity and for the love to NCEPU, and expressed their determination to foster a lofty ideal and to work hard for the prosperity of NCEPU and our motherland.
    With the inspiring school song, all the students and teachers are looking forward to a better future of NCEPU.
