NCEPU hosted report-back meeting on two years’ anniversary of Energy and Environmental Research Cente

On the morning of July 31st, the Report-back meeting was held in the Conference Room 1 of International Communication Center to report the achievements of Energy and Environmental Research Center since it was founded two years ago. Wu Guilong (Deputy Chief of Science and Technology Department of MOE), Ming Ju (Deputy Division Chief of Foundation Division of MOE), Liu Jizhen (President of NCEPU), Li Chengrong (Vice-president of NCEPU), Yang Yongping (Vice-president of NCEPU), Huang Guohe (Director of Energy and Environmental Research Center), Li Yongping (Researcher in School of City and Environment of Beijing University), and Huang Yuefei (Associate Professor in Water Conservancy Department of Tsinghua University) are present at the meeting. The meeting was presided over by Zhang Lizi (Standing Associate Dean of Modern Electric Power Research Institute of NCEPU).

    As an international energy and environmental research center, Energy and Environmental Research Center of NCEPU, was founded at the end of 2005 through the cooperation of NCEPU and University of Regina, Canada. The center is dedicated to the research direction of energy and environmental science, and solving the relevant problems in energy and environmental science, so as to cultivate the excellent talents with Master’s Degree or Doctor’s Degree, to promote the our country’s academic level in energy and environment field and to improve the international influence of China. The foundation of the Center is a significant measure and creation of our University to attract oversea talents team and to achieve the goal of establishing research-oriented University. Prof. Huang Guohe, who is an international authoritative expert of Uncertainty Theories in the field of energy science and engineering research, has served the Director of the Center, Chairman of International Environmental Information System, Director of Sino-Canada Energy and Environmental Research Center, Canada Research Chair of National Energy and Environmental Research of Canada, Vice-principal of Engineering School of University of Regina. With the backing of existing researches by NCEPU and University of Regina, the Center has undertaken several key research projects funded by the National “973 Project”, National Natural Science Foundation of China, Chinese Academy of Science and Beijing Municipal Government. Through two years’ development, the Center has become the main force the energy and environmental research, and has improved its international competitiveness and appeal, which turns out to be the basis of this report-back meeting.

    On the meeting, Prof. Huang delivered a speech mainly regarding the achievements of the Center in terms of its organization, personnel composition, operating mode, main purpose, research goal, project, post-graduate education, laboratory establishment, research articles publishing, application of patent, domestic and foreign cooperation and communication and the future direction. Prof. Li Jianbing gave a lecture named “Research on Contamination of Soil and Underground Water” to introduce his major research direction and future research goals. Prof. Zhang Huayong delivered a speech on “Basic Ecology and Restoration Ecology” to introduce the research ideas, improvement and laboratory establishment and to provide suggestions to the existing problems. Pursuant to the noxious pollutant in the water, Prof. Li Yu introduced the method, result, conclusion and fruits of relevant research in his speech “Environmental Behavior-Transition and Transform-Environmental Effect”.

    After hearing the reports, leaders of MOE together with all the guests paid a visit to the laboratory of Energy and Environmental Research Center. President Liu awarded the appointment letters to the three new part-time professors, including Researcher Li Yong ping from City and Environment School of Beijing University, Prof. Xi Beidou who is the academic leader of Water Environmental Systems of Chinese Research Academy Of Environmental Sciences, and Associate Professor Huang Yuefei from Water Conservancy Department of Tsinghua University. Mr. Li and Mr. Huang expressed their confidence in making contribution to the academic establishment, scientific research and talents cultivation of the Center.

    Finally, Mr. Liu and Mr. Wu delivered speeches to all the guests.

    Mr. Liu pointed out in his speech that he’s really happy to see the achievements made by the enter and to know that the policy we adopted proved to be right. All that we have achieved strengthens our belief and gives us the hope of a promising future. NCEPU has entered into a new development stage since it is directly under the operation of MOE in 2003 and has made great progress in the talents team constructions, campus constructions and human environment. Highlighting production-study-research cooperation and cooperation with power enterprises, taking “multi-disciplined, research-oriented and internationalized” as the long term schooling aim, NCEPU has actively developed into a multi-disciplinary university with energy-related majors as the focus in accordance with the higher education functions of “talents training, research, and social services”. The “energy” for NCEPU is much more than the production and transportation of power. It is also about the environment and resource problems led by energy and the economy, management, law and other matters relevant to energy. It is not only an industry but also a subject widely concerning science and engineering. NCEPU is walking into the world with state power demand, energy-saving and environment protection as the focus and making innovations in discipline construction, research and talents cultivation according to the requirment of “high standing point, high standard, new pattern and new mechanism”.

    Mr. Liu expressed the appreciation to the guide and support from Science Department of MOE and to the comrades who contributed to the development of NCEPU and wished the Center can make more brilliant achievements and show themselves to NCEPU and the society and brand-new state with the support form MOE leaders and efforts from other NCEPU staff.

    Mr. Wu said the operation pattern of this center has great reference value to Science Department in guiding other universities promoting the internationalized cooperation of research and talents-training. He further pointed out that to develop centering on national developing demand and large programs and participate into these projects would greatly contribute to the development of NCEPU. The Center should further concentrate on program, talents and base construction, among which base construction especially needs to take the way of sustainable development. The center has made achievements in cross-discipline development and should find a way to make use of this advantage to do scientific research and talents cultivation. He expected the Center to provide suggestions to the assessment plan of national energy and environment through in-depth summarizing of university development strategy. He also suggested NCEPU to make a plan according to national strategic demands and continue to promote the center’s development from all aspects.

    Mr. Wu wishes NCEPU make greater achievement and progress on the coming 50th anniversary.
