NCEPU Students and Teachers Donate to Help Earthquake -stricken Areas

After the catastrophic earthquake on May 12, 2008, students and teachers in NCEPU have been presenting their concerns and care in various ways such as donations to the people who suffered from the earthquake. Up to May 19, the donation had reached 1,165,000 RMB and more than 2,000 students and teachers have been ready to donate blood.

    The situation of the earthquake-stricken area is the order. On hearing the news of the catastrophic earthquake in Wenchuan, NCEPU immediately called all the students and teachers on to help people in the earthquake-stricken area go through the after-quake difficulties. On May 14, the office of university communist party committee along with president office released the proposal titled “Though the earthquake was merciless, we human beings have hearts of love and helping hand will be everywhere when one place is in trouble—to donate for the earthquake-stricken area ” to encourage us to open our arms ,devote our love, actively donate to them, offer concerns and support to the people who suffered from the earthquake and contribute to the reconstruction of earthquake-stricken area. Meanwhile, University Labor Union and Youth League Committee also organized different activities to encourage students, teachers and all the other staff of NCEPU to help the people, who suffered from the earthquake In addition, Student Union of every school organized activities to collect money for the earthquake-stricken area. Shortly after the earthquake, the campus of NCEPU is filled with sympathy and love.

    To fight against the earthquake, we have to take actions. On May 14, Party Secretary Wu Zhigong, President Liu Jizhen and other university leaders walked to the student apartments of both Beijng and Baoding campus to comfort every student whose hometowns were stricken by the earthquake, gave them consolation and encouraged them to go through difficulties. In addition, all schools of NCEPU also offered psychological assistance to the students in ways like “peer education” and so on to guarantee all of them concentrate on their study. According to the statistics, there were 509 students who are from the earthquake-stricken areas, and they all have got in touch with their family now. Fortunately, all their family members are safe. Because the house of her family was razed into ground, Yan Sisi, an undergraduate student majoring in refrigeration, has not got in touch with her family until May 19. However, she refused the consolation from NCEPU saying that she is graduating and can support her family with her own efforts and insisted on giving the consolation to the students of lower grades.

    Try to gather every penny and accumulate love. Recently, responding the appeal of leaders in NCEPU, staff and students have made a large amount of donations. Just upon the day when the notice on donation was released by the university, the Rear-service Group held a meeting and collected 3450 yuan from the 11 staff members, being the first to turn in donation to the college union. On May 14th, a donation for earthquake relief was organized by the Human & Social Science School, in which the general party secretary and the dean set a good example for others, and 15, 400 yuan was collected in less than half an hour. Yu Shunkun, professor from the Business Administration School, contributed 5000 yuan. Li Xinxin (part-time professor), Song Jinpeng and Chen Bo (young teachers) took out 2000 yuan respectively. Qin Yong, the part-time staff of the Training School who was just going on an errand, asked his colleague to donate 50 yuan instead and contribute another 1000 yuan when he came back. Zhang Chunxiao, who was abroad then, also requested his colleague to donate 1000 yuan on behalf of him on the phone. In addition to the 500 yuan donated at the office of retirement, the retired leader Shen Youchang hurried to the university to bring 2000 yuan. He explained that he and his wife Feng Junwen donated the money to show their compassion for the people in the disaster areas. Junior students of the five classes of the Energy & Power Engineering School actively contributed money during their internship outside Beijing. with students from class 042 donating 1230 yuan. Casual workers from the Logistics Group, the internet sector and the security department, many of whom lived in the countryside with an income of 600 yuan, didn’t hesitate in such a donation as a response to the university’s appeal. At present, many party members and other staff and students are still contributing money in forms of “special member-ship dues”, community donation, short-message and postal remittance, etc. The university also provided all channels to help the rebuilding of disaster areas.

    Strength and sadness coexists. Since people in Beijing also felt the terrible earthquake happening in Sichuan province, NCEPU actively strengthened positive propaganda, so as to guide its staff and students to stick to their positions and maintain stability to meet safe Olympics. All sectors of the party committee cared much about the situation in disaster areas, and informed staff and students of the deployment and progress of the earthquake relief implemented by the Party and the central government through the internet, videos and newspapers, extending our care and help to victims of the earthquake. The propaganda and security departments intensified supervision of false information in time to maintain safety and stability on campus. Excellent basic Party organizations and outstanding representatives were praised by propaganda sectors, and activities like “candle-lighting” were organized to lament for the dead and pray for the alive, expressing sympathy and love. At 14:28 on May 19th, a mourning ritual was held on the playground to lament over the dead for 3 minutes. With respect for life and time, staff and students in this university related spontaneously their fate to that of the whole country. They would inherit the fine tradition of cooperation with each other, carry forward the NCEPU spirit, study hard and jointly make their own contribution to the reconstruction of earthquake-stricken areas and building our university into a high-level one.
