NCEPU Party Secretary Visited Students from Earthquake-stricken Areas on Beijing Campus

On May 14, Party Secretary Wu zhigong visited the students whose hometowns were stricken by the earthquake, accompanied by Hao Yingjie, deputy party secretary of NCEPU and leaders from other functional departments. Secretary Wu conveyed the concerns and symphathy from the school Party committee and distributed consolation.

    Secretary Wu came to No.5 and No.12 Student Apartments to meet with those students from Business Administration School, Renewable Energy School, School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering. Wherever he went, he asked with concern where their hometowns were, whether they have got in touch with their family and whether their family members were safe. In Room 424 of No.12 student apartment, after knowing a girl whose hometown Beichuan was severely stricken by the earthquake hasn’t got in touch with her mother, Secretary Wu told her that our party and government have been doing relief work orderly and effectively and just wait for the good news patiently.. Later, Secretary Wu cordially inquired the student what the current difficulties were and how her life was. Wu’s words brought warmth to those students.

    After coming out from the Students apartment, Secretary Wu said a lot to the leaders who accompanied him .He said, “Since Wenchuan earthquake caused huge casualties and property losses in the quaked area,,we should take up our social responsibility besides teaching knowledge. On the one hand, we should follow the disaster relief work instructions of CPC Central Committee and State Council; on the other hand, we must pacify the students who came from the earthquake-stricken areas. We should give them help and care both on their lives and on their minds. We should also try to understand and solve the various difficulties they are encountering, so that they can live and study normally without worrying about their families. We should do this because every student in North China Electric Power University is our child. Only in this way can we truly fulfill the school concept "to build a responsible university”.

    According to the statistics, there are altogether 509 students in our school whose hometown were in the quaked area, among which 226 are on Beijing campus, and 283 are on Baoding campus. Now, relevant departments in the school are actively taking measures to provide help to those students, so that they can enjoy the campus life as the other students.
