2008 National Cultural Philosophy Forum was successfully held in NCEPU

On April 26, 2008 National Cultural Philosophy Forum co-sponsored by Philosophy School of Qinghua University, Philosophy Institute of CASS, Humanity and Social Science School of NCEPU was held in Communication Center of NCEPU. Party Secretary Wu Zhigong, dean of Humanities School Cai Limin and philosophy experts and scholars from Tsinghua University, Jilin University, Xi’an Jiaotong University and some other domestic universities and teachers and students from School of Humanities attended the forum. The opening ceremony was presided over by the party secretary of Huminities School, Fan Li.

    On the opening ceremony, Prof. Cai expressed warm welcome to all the attendance and the appreciation to the support of the co-sponsors. Prof. Cai briefly introduced School of Humanities and its principles and mission. He concluded that School of Humanities had made great progress in all aspects with the support of NCEPU.

    Prof. Cai then introduced the research condition of Humanities School. Philosophy and Social Institute, built in December 2005, consists of 12 members, including 10 philosophy Ph.Ds from Beijing University, CASS, China Renmin University and Shandong University with their research areas covering Marxism and philosophy, western philosophy, Chinese philosophy and scientific and technical philosophy. Party secretary, Wu Zhigong, who attached great importance to the development of social science, has been to School of Humanities seven times to investigate and communicate with the students and teachers. Though there are many difficulties on the way of progress, all the teachers in this institute still published many papers in high-level magazines and made every effort to explore a new field. Meanwhile cultural philosophy is a new direction which is different from the materialism and scientific centralism. This forum will greatly promote domestic cultural philosophical research. Prof. Cai pointed out that we should value this opportunity and learn from all the experts with a modest attitude.

    Prof. Zhou Guangwen from Philosophy School of Tsinghua University outlined the development of cultural philosophy forum, and mentioned that the theme of the forum is “existing problems in the research of contemporary philosophy and culture” with the central goal of calling the prosperity of cultural philosophy. Meanwhile, he appreciated NCEPU to provide a relaxed and harmonious environment for deep thinking of philosophy.

    Prof. Wu Zhigong made a speech at the end of the meeting. He said, as an engineering university, NCEPU is one of the 72 key universities of the Ministry of Education. However, becoming a first-rate university, we must find the utmost value of engineering science. Meanwhile, he indicated that top universities like Tsinghua University, Xi’an Jiaotong University, Jilin University also paid great attention to the significance and contribution made by philosophy in the university development. On the arrival of the 50th anniversary of NCEPU, Prof. Wu expressed his warm welcome to the scholars and experts of philosophy and culture, hoping they can play big roles in promoting academic and cultural exchanges. Prof. Wu paid Humanities School the compliment of making efforts to the forum, and expressed his hope of holding higher-level international cultural philosophy forum, which can symbolize our school’s electric power features, to open up a new research field on electric power philosophy.
