Top Ten Events of NCEPU in 2013

1. carrying out intensive activities throughout the university to study and practice the Party’s mass line 
Following the unified arrangement of the Central Committee and the Ministry of Education, focusing on the need “to serve the people and to be down-to-earth, honest and upright in conduct”, in about half a year’s time, the university carried out intensive activities throughout the campus to study and practice the party’s mass line. Keeping a foothold on the university’s practical situation, bearing the strategic tasks determined by the university’s party congress and the 12th Five-Year Plan on mind, NCEPU spared no efforts to solve problems of the administration. For example, some administers are panic with their competence; some know little about their responsibility, never make effort to solve problems or do anything meaningful for the development of the university; some are quite knowledgeable on everything except for their jobs., To build a modern university management system with Chinese characteristics and acquire international competitiveness, concentrating on the problems of some administers’ style of work, the university administration listened to various advices with an open mind, examined their work carefully and, carried out criticism and self-criticism. An improvement program targeting at the identified problems was carefully designed and implemented, which greatly enhanced the administration of the university.
 
2. Implementing the "Great Talents” development strategy and making breakthroughs in high-caliber talents team construction
Following the “Great Talents” development strategy proposed by the Teachers' Congress at the beginning of the year, the university made new breakthroughs in talents team construction. Distinguished experts attracted to work for the university include Professor Wang Haifeng, professor Huang Yongzhang and other three professors from the “Thousand Talents Scheme” ,  professor Dai Songyuan, the chief scientist of the “973” plan, a winner of the National Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars and a distinguished expert of the “Thousand Youth Talents Scheme”. What’s more, Yang Yongping was elected as a leading talent in technological innovation of the national “Ten Thousand Talents Program” and. Lu Hongwei was chosen to be an outstanding young talent of the “Ten Thousand Talents Program”. Xu Jinliang became a specially-appointed professor of the “Changjiang Scholar” and was honored with “Young expert with outstanding contribution”. Li Yongping won “China Youth Award of Science and Technology”. Moreover, four teachers became “Excellent Talents of the New Century” and two teachers were named “Prominent Teachers of Universities in Beijing”.
 
   3. Establishing the second University Council and a long-term working mechanism of getting industry-wide support for the university development
On December 22, the first meeting of the second session of the University Council was successfully held. The China Electricity Council, the State Grid Corporation, China Southern Power Grid Corporation, China Huaneng Group, China Datang Group, China Huadian Group, China Guodian Coporation, and China Power Investment Group became members of the Council. Liu Zhenya, CEC chairman, president and secretary of the branch Committee of the CPC of the State grid Corporation of China was re-elected as the president of the Council. The Secretariat of the Council is in CEC. Relying on CEC platform, the new Council formed a new pattern of industry-wide support for the development of North China Electric Power University, providing a long-term working mechanism for the implementation of the” Strategy of University Development through university-power company cooperation".
 
    4. President Liu Jizhen was elected to be a member of the twelfth National Committee of CPPCC
President Liu Jizhen was elected to be a member of the twelfth CPPCC National Committee. During the meeting, he submitted a draft resolution, "on the revision of standards for university land planning and campus construction and inclusion of campus planning in the overall urban construction planning ". President Liu received more than 20 media interviews on the issues of China's reform of higher education, new energy development strategy, employment of college graduates, etc. After the meeting, President Liu held 3 reports at NCEPU to convey the spirit of the meeting for teachers and students.
 
    5. A number of achievements got national and provincial awards and scientific and technological innovation ability improved steadily
The project, "agricultural and forestry residues multi-channel pyrolysis and gasification cogeneration carbons key technology development", completed by Professor Zhang Kai with NCEPU as the second participating university, won the second prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award. The university won a first prize of the Science and Technology Progress Award of Ministry of Education, an award for Excellent Achievement of Social Science of Hebei Province, a first prize of Social Science Fund Program of Hebei Province and two first awards of the China Power Science and Technology.
Statistics showed that NCEPU held a significantly higher place in the university ranking of research paper publication, ranking the 45th, 30 places higher than last year, in terms of number of papers included in Chinese Science Citation Indexed, and the 83rd in Science Citation Index Extended Edition (SCIE), up 6 places.
 
6. Held a series activities for celebrating the 55th anniversary of NCEPU simply and ceremoniously
Since October, NCEPU held a series celebrations for the 55th anniversary, such as the teachers and students’ variety show or alumnus forum, inviting the famous calligrapher Ouyang Zhongshi to inscribe the university motto, inviting painting and calligraphy artists to perform on campus, inviting famous singers to sing the university song ,holding “the voice NCEPU” chorus competition, etc.. With the purpose of college spirit cultivation and college culture enrichment, these colorful and meaningful celebrations intensified cooperation and exchange between the university and the outside world, set up a good image of the university, and further strengthened the faculty and students’ confidence in building a high level university.
                 
7. Strengthening the connotative construction and steadily promoting the scientific research platform construction
The “State key laboratory of new energy power system” was taken as the International cooperation in science and technology research center at the national level by Ministry of Science and Technology. “National thermal power engineering technology research center” passed the acceptance and appraisal by Ministry of Science and Technology. The research of “Biomass power generation equipment national engineering laboratory” won the first prize for the scientific and technological advancement form China Southern Power Grid Company. Two Beijing’s key laboratories, one provincial level social science research base in Hebei province, one provincial and ministerial-level teaching demonstration center and one Energy and environmental systems analysis and engineering application innovation base were newly established. The “The global sustainable development center” was established jointly with the Cambridge University.

8. The quality of talents training continually improved
 One doctoral dissertation obtained nomination of National Excellent 100 Doctoral Dissertation. Three courses were chosen to be national high-quality Curriculums. Two textbooks were chosen to be provincial excellent teaching materials. Eighteen achievements won provincial teaching achievement prizes. With the constantly improved creativity, students won 46 first prizes in major competitions, such as China Undergraduate Mathematical Contest in Modeling (CUMCM), American Undergraduate Mathematical Contest in Modeling (AUMCM), the national graduated students’ mathematical contest in modeling, the national college students' engineering training comprehensive ability, challenge cup University student extracurricular academic science and technology works competition and so on. Among these competitions, students got the highest score in China Undergraduate Mathematical Contest in Modeling (CUMCM) and created a record high. The university got the Advanced Team Prize for the special social practice activity held by Central Communist Youth League and three key supported entrepreneurship projects of Ministry of Education, one of which was one of the top 100 national female college students business competition. Students of NCEPU constantly got good scores in International Marathon and The National College Students Football League and other sports competitions. Moreover, NCEPU continued to come out in front in employment rate and the quality of employment of graduates among universities under the administration of the Ministry of Education.

 
9. The revenue of university education fund doubled and exceeded one hundred million Yuan.
The contract value of the university education fund exceeded one hundred million Yuan in 2013, including the 18 million stock equity donated by the investment company, and the total value of contract doubled for three consecutive years. In the past three years, the university education foundation raised over one million Yuan for NCEPU in different ways, which was widely used in supporting kinds of development projects for the university, discipline, students and teachers. Rated as the 4A service organization by Beijing Municipal Civil Affairs Bureau, the university education foundation is becoming more widely appreciated by the society and undertaking broader rang of projects.
 
10. passing the examination and acceptance of “Safe Campus Program” in Beijing with a safe and harmonious campus
The university pays great attention to the construction of a harmonies campus and continually improves mechanism of students’ academic performance precaution and assistance. Effective measures were taken to provide professional advices, financial aid and humanistic care to students in need. , Meanwhile, the university actively promoted “Academic mentoring project” and “The four supporting systems”. The university completed six projects to ensure the building of a Safe Campus, including building up an impeccable digital high definition video monitoring system, an electronic monitoring of fire protection system and so on. A university-society linkage mechanism was established between the university and the neighborhood. On December 3rd, NCEPU passed the examination and acceptance of “Safe Campus Program” in Beijing.
