The Second Graduate Academic Forum of North China Electric Power University and the University of Regina in Canada Was Held

      In the morning of May 13, the opening ceremony of the Second Graduate Academic Forum of North China Electric Power University (NCEPU) and the University of Regina (UR) in Canada was held at NCEPU. Attendees of the ceremony included President Vianne Timmons of UR , Dean Arimin Eberlein and Deputy Dongyuan Blachford of Graduate School of UR, President Liu Jizhen, Vice-President An Liansuo of NCEPU, diretors from International Cooperation Department, Graduate School, Graduate Students Affairs Department of Party Committee, other relevant departments and schools of NCEPU, 10 graduate students of UR, 11 graduate students of NCEPU and graduate representatives from Beijng Normal University (BNU) and China University of Petroleum. The ceremony was presided over by Ms Zhao Dongmei, the Deputy Dean of the Graduate School of NCEPU.
 

 


     On behalf of NCEPU, President Liu Jizhen expressed his hearty welcome to the delegation of graduates of UR. He said that UR attached great importance to academic exchanges between graduate students and its “Shenkuo Scheme”  had strengthened academic exchanges with Chinese universities. According to President Liu, this forum not only provided a good platform for teachers and students of NCEPU to engage in international academic exchanges, but also helped the two universities better understand each other and further deepen friendship so as to strengthen research and academic ties between NCEPU and UR .
 

 


     Yu Yang and Luke Schneider from NCEPU and the UR respectively gave a speech at the ceremony . Taking three classmates’ learning experiences as an example, Yu made an introduction to the disciplines and research fields of NCEPU. Luke Schneider humorously gave some detailed information of university size and research teams of UR, calling on graduate students from both universities to participate in various academic exchange activities organized by universities to enhance academic exchanges.

      President Vianne Timmons of UR thanked NCEPU for the warm reception in her speech. She pointed out that as one of the first group of universities that established friendly relationship with Chinese universities, UR’s cooperation with Chinese universities could be traced back to ten years ago Paying great attention to international exchanges and cooperation, UR enjoyed long-term friendship with Chinese universities . After introducing graduate schools and academic disciplnes of UR in detail, President Vianne Timmons said that the two universities had great potential to co-operate in common disciplines like water resources protection, and scientific research on projects of global concerns such as global climate change.

     

      
      After the opening ceremony, Dean of Graduate School of UR Dr. Armin Eberlein and Dean of Energy and Power Engineering School Professor Xu Jinliang made a keynote speech respectively .
      
      In the afternoon, graduate students held two paralleled sessions to exchange ideas on related topics such as “the efficient use of energy” and “environment and health”.
