NCEPU Baoding Campus Winning the First Prize in the 6th National College Mechanical Innovation Competition

      Baoding News in Brief: The 6th National College Mechanical Innovation Competition was held recently in Northeastern University. The Intelligent Mobile Platform Project, designed by Wei Xiaohang, Liu Huamiao, Li Yue, Han Lu and Deng Xinyi under the guidance of NCEPU teachers Fang Jing and Fan Xiaoliang, won the first prize in the competition and won the second scholarship of China Weal Limited with its third place in the final ranking. 
     
      With the approval of The Higher Education Department of the Ministry of Education(MOE), the National College Mechanical Innovation Competition is a mass scientific and technological event and is held every two years by Higher Institutions Mechanical Education Steering Committee of MOE and co-organized by Mechanical Basic Course Teaching Steering Sub-Committee, the National Mechanical Principle Teaching & Research Association, the National Mechanical Design Teaching & Research Association and the National Metalworking Teaching & Research Association. This event aims to encourage universities and colleges to cultivate students’ ability in innovative design, comprehensive design and team spirit, strengthen practical ability and engineering training of college students, attract and encourage students to participate enthusiastically in extracurricular scientific and technological activities so as to create opportunities for talented students. 
      Our university attached great importance to this competition. The Office of Teaching Affairs, the Engineering Training Centre and the Department of Mechanical Engineering co-organized on-campus audition. In order to encourage more students to participate in and create more competitive products, the Engineering Training Centre held three topic trainings, in which 682 students participated and put forward more than 90 creative ideas. After the review of school experts, 26 item works and 40 model works were selected and entered into production. After the on-campus audition, 11 programs were submitted and entered the provincial preliminaries, in which our students won respectively 2 grand prizes, 2 first prizes, 3 second awards and 2 excellence awards. This is the first time for our students to receive the national first prize in this competition. The winning project of our university, The Intelligent Mobile Platform Project, combines functions of elevator mechanism, scalable driving wheel mechanism, laptop, projectors, audio equipment, camera, fingerprint attendance and voice recognition. It boasts the basic function of multimedia devices of common platforms, and even functions of fingerprint attendance, voice interaction, video monitoring, lifting and flexing, intelligent memory work, and so on, in order to comprehensively solve all sorts of problems in teaching. 
      
    This competition gave college students a unique chance to learn from each other. It further strengthened students’ understanding on their professional knowledge, contributed to cultivate their creative and co-operative spirit and engineering practice ability. What’s more, it stimulated their interest and enthusiasm to participate in scientific innovation, created a effective scientific culture atmosphere, and played a positive role in promoting scientific and technological activities in universities and colleges.
