NCEPU Held 2014 Postgraduate OrientationCeremony

       On September 4th and 5th, the main building observed the grand OrientationCeremony for 2014 Postgraduates of North China Electric Power University on both Beijing campus and Baoding campus. . About 2300 newly enrolled postgraduate students and a number of teachers attended the ceremony, including school leaders like the vice-presidentAn Liansuo, the deputy secretary of University Party Committee Li Shuangchen,the president assistantMiZengqiang and GuoXiaofeng, The two-campus ceremonies were presided respectively by Zhao Dongmei, the executive vice-president of the Graduate School and GeYongqing, vice-minister of Graduate Management Office under the Party Committee of NCEPU.
      
      At the Orientation Ceremony of the Postgraduate Education, on behalf of NCEPU, An Liansuo expressed his heartfelt congratulations and warm welcome to all 2014 postgraduates. Firstly, he introduced the achievements and characteristics of postgraduate education during NCEPU’s history. He pointed out that, through deepening reform, NCEPU has perfected the system of postgraduate education and formed its own unique characteristics and advantages. NCEPU, with the postgraduate education concept of “Innovation, High-quality, Cooperation, and Characteristic Development ”, has given full play to the advantage of discipline  and deepened industry-university-research cooperation. Based on the platform of University Council composed by State Grid Corporation of China and other seven large power enterprises, NCEPU actively explored new mode and new mechanism for united training of school and enterprises. At the same time, NCEPU gathered and developed lots of excellent teaching and researching teams, which has set up a good scientific research platform.
     At the Ceremony, Li Yonggang, doctoral supervisor of Department of Electric Power Engineering spoke on behalf of all teachers. He expected, under solid knowledge and good spirit of NCEPU, all new postgraduates could raise the quality of subject research, find problems, develop skills of problem solving, cultivate methods of active learning and literature reading, and focus on writing training and practice ability. Postgraduates, HouJie and TianYueyi, spoke on behalf of all 2014 new students. They said, we should study hard and improve working skills. Through the study of scientific methodsand the trainingof research ability, we could step onto the road of scientific research. Meanwhile, life is full of expectation for all new students. Lu Yan, 2013 doctoral student, and Li Zhijun, 2013 postgraduate, spoke on behalf of the entire school graduate students, expressed warm welcome to new students, and shared learning experience of themselves and those around them, which brought positive energy to newly enrolled students.
     After the Ceremony, taking “How To Be An Excellent Postgraduate” as the topic, professor XuJinliang, the Chief Scientist of the National 973 Project, winner of the National Funds for Distinguished Young Scientists, doctoral supervisor, and the dean of School of Energy, Power and Mechanical Engineering, delivered a wonderful education report on scientific moral and regulating academic behaviors. XuJinliang explained how to be an excellent postgraduate from the following five aspects: the scientist growth process, what is research, scientific research of methodology, humanity and personal character training and the ability postgraduates should have. This was a vital lesson that gave studentsdirectionsof the road to scientific research before the postgraduates began their studies and research.
      
    After the report, Zhao Dongmei, the executive vice-president of the Graduate School made a summary and pointed out that, in graduate school life, students could consciously use macroscopic view and microcosmic view, contingency and necessity, and thinking method such as universal connection. In the process of doing research, there aresurely difficulties, thus, postgraduates should have the spirit of hard working and bearing hardship, and stick to scientific moral and academic integrity. With the development of economic globalization and social diversity, postgraduates also need to broaden academic vision, improve the ability of international communication, master new development in science and technology, and grow in study and practice.
     Song Xiaohua, the vice-president of the Graduate School, interpreted the postgraduate education procedures in detail. Li Lin, president of graduate management office under party committee of NCEPU, gave a brief introduction to postgraduate scholarship system, which new students paid close attention to, and he expected that new students could perform a successful role transformation and step into a new stage of academic.
