President Liu Jizhen’s Notefor New PhD Students: To Become One of the Most Innovative and Active Groups in Academic Sector

       On the afternoon of September 23, President Liu Jizhen attended 2014 Doctoral Candidates Opening Ceremony and orientationMeeting. He hoped doctoral candidates can concentrate their efforts on academic studies, become one of the most innovative and active groups in academic sector and grow up into an aspiring man with a strong sense of responsibility.
       Vice-president AnLiansuo and main directors from graduate school, graduate work department of party committee and all colleges and departments also attended the meeting that was presided over by executive vice president of graduate school Zhao Dongmei. AnLiansuo read “A Commendation Decision for 2014 Doctoral Candidates Getting Academic Scholarships” in the meeting.
       President Liu pointed out “A university not only should transfer running scale, but also give special priority to teaching quality. The educational philosophy of our school is “Building a Responsible University”, which means responsible for students, for families, for parents, for our nation and for the society. So how should the university take the responsibility? A university should attach importance to the development of subjects, construction of teaching staff, the improvement of education condition, and above all, the running quality. Improving running quality is the central task for university to develop constantly. And now it is the time for our university to go all out to improve running quality. A university should have a sense of mission and responsibility, always consider how to take its responsibility to improve the quality of talents training, and play a role in the development of social economy to realize the dream of thegreat rejuvenation of the Chinese nation”.
       President Liu noted “Our topic today is how to improve the training quality of doctoral students? In recent years, the training quality of doctoral students has improved. However, around quality, we must change a lot in system, theory and behavior. The university increases investment in talents cultivation and is providing good living conditions especially for doctoral students. For example, the university has built a new dormitory building for doctoral students this year. And it is the first time to build a dormitory building for doctoral students. Menciussaid ‘collecting talents of the worldand training them’, NCEPU will continue to select and cultivate excellent talents. Based on domestic and foreign experience, it will establish reasonable investment mechanism and constantly improve the quality of student resource and training quality”.
      President Liu also stressed that doctoral students should insist on developing themselves in an all-round way. One should pursue hard for self-improvement constantly in his/her limited life, and at the same time, carrying forward theadvantages, overcoming shortcomings constantly, learning from others and becoming aneducated man of intellectual, moral and taste. Besides, one should have a clear understanding of his/her own situation and also have a clear goal and idea. With right direction and diligent efforts, I believe you will succeed. Please do not idle away your life, but study hard to grow up into an aspiring man with a strong sense of responsibility. I hope there are more and more excellent talents among you to meet international and domestic development.
     The freshman representative XuQian from departmentof Energy & Power Engineering and student representative LiXuebao from department of Electrical & Electronic Engineering delivered a speech at the meeting respectively.
