President Liu Jizhen met guests from University of Edinburgh

       On the afternoon of October 16, President Liu Jizhen met Professor Hugh McCann, the dean of Engineering School at University of Edinburgh, and the delegation from University of Edinburgh. Liu welcomed Professor Hugh McCann, and he said the good cooperation between North China Electric Power University (NCEPU) and University of Edinburgh had been implemented in recent years. For instance, the joint undergraduate program had been working well, and fruitful scientific research cooperations between both sides carried out as well. President Liu hoped that the cooperations would be further strengthened.
      Mr. Hugh McCann said there was a long-term cooperation relationship and deep cooperation basis between himself and NCEPU, as well as between the Engineering School at University of Edinburgh and NCEPU. In the past 4 years, the Engineering School at University of Edinburgh carried out some cooperative projects with NCEPU. The joint undergraduate program had been going smoothly, whose participants achieved outstanding academic performance and developed well. In addition, teachers at University of Edinburgh were impressed by those excellent students. At present, the teachers from Engineering School at University of Edinburgh join two of the “111 Programs of Introducing Talents” of NCEPU and have achieved successful scientific research cooperations. Mr. Hugh McCann suggested that the majors in the joint undergraduate program and the areas of collaboration should be expanded.
      President Liu approved of the Mr. Hugh McCann’s suggestions and evaluation for the cooperations of the two universities, and hoped more NCEPU students can study for master’s degree and doctorate at University of Edinburgh through the program. Liu also hoped that the scientific research cooperation could be propelled continuously, and the visiting scholar program at University of Edinburgh for NCEPU’s teacher would be made for cultivating better teachers of NCEPU.
      Liu Yongqian, the director of the International Cooperation Department, Liu Shi, the dean of Control and Computer Engineering School, and Duan Chunming, the assistant dean of International Education Institute, also attended the meeting.
