The results of“Higher Education Press Cup”Contemporary Undergraduate Mathematical Contest Modeling (CUMCM) of 2014 came out in recent days. The students from NCEPU have achieved excellent results, including six national First Prizes and nine national Second Prizes, which has set a new record in the history. So far, NCEPU has continuously received national First Prizes in this contest for seven years.
CUMCM is the scientific and technical innovation activity for college students, which is co-hosted by Department of Higher Education of Ministry of Education and China Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (CSIAM). Founded in 1992, the annual competition has been the largest basic subject compotation in national universities, and largest mathematical contest modeling in the whole world. There are 25,347 teams (including 22,233 undergraduate teams and 3,114 junior college student teams), 7 0,000competitors, and 1,338 participating universities from 33 provinces; municipalities; autonomous regions (including Hong Kong and Macao Special Administrative Regions); Singapore; and America. Two hundred and ninety-three teams were awarded National First Prize in undergraduate teams.
NCEPU, firstly participating in the contest in 1996, has gathered precious experience and developed effective methods on teaching contents, curriculum system, and instructor team after years of exploration and practice. In particular, after founding the mathematics modeling of club, the university has regularly conducted lectures and trainings, intramural competitions, and experience exchange meetings, etc. Through these measures, it has built joint innovation environment for teachers and students, realized the normalization of innovation activities, played a cohesive role in students’ innovation and practice activities, and laid a solid foundation for cultivation of innovative talents.
